As well was being an editorial leader for the Newspaper, Yearbook and Broadcast team, she somehow finds the time to enjoy the odd, long hike and watch a variety of television shows on Netflix. Usually, she has a hard time doing all of the aforementioned at the same time.

Photo by Kayley Winkelman Four seniors from Stillwater Area High School were chosen for the National Merit Program: Noah Ruh, Andrea Rustad, Alex Eitzman and Ryan Martin. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for both recognition and scholarships administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Rustad explained, First they choose people with a certain score on the PSAT. Then, if you are selected, you have to take the SAT, write an essay and send in grades and information about yourself-pretty much like any scholarship.

Senior Colin Campbell recently released a new EP with his band Colin and the C-Notes—a band consisting of Campbell and his two brothers, Evan and Cameron. “The funny thing is that this band was made for me. I like bands and I didn’t have one at the time when I was offered a gig so I asked my three brothers and we made a band,” said Campbell.

Social studies teacher Mike Lennon examines tracks left in the snow by a critter. Lennon has been passionate about the outdoors his whole life and was thrilled when sophomore Drew Weigel came to him wanting to restart the club. Lennon was the adviser of the Naturalist club when it was at Stillwater Junior High School. “The reason it folded was because of transportation,” said Lennon. “The participants were slightly younger so the issue and cost of transportation is what closed it down.”

Sophomore Drew Weigel leads the Naturalist Club on their hike through William O’Brien State park. Social studies teacher Mike Lennon is the caboose of the hiking party. Weigel and Lennon communicated extensively over the summer to create a club designed for people who love to go outdoors. “It’s a rebirth of a club that ran in the district for five or six years,” said Lennon. “We worked over the summer to get it going and now we’re just trying to get it up and running.”

Sophomore Evan Sand looks on to a field in William O’Brien State Park. The park has several miles of hiking trails, as well as cross-country ski trails and campsites. The Naturalist Club plans to utilize the local park several times this school year. “Some people hunted out there last week, and we found a place where they did a kill and gut and the remains were still out there,” said social studies teacher Mike Lennon. “That fascinated the students. Then some of the boys got in a big snowball fight. It all went very well.”

A lone, faceless snowman is perched outside of an abandoned educational center at William O’Brien State Park. The Naturalist Club trekked through the fresh snow on Nov. 22. Hiking is one of the first activities the new club has done together. “It went very well,” said social studies teacher Mike Lennon. “I had two kids show up that I hadn’t expected and two moms came which was nice.”
