Varsity girls soccer game plays a home game against Cretin-Derham Hall, which ended in a tie. They soon went to semi-finals and won against Edina at the US Bank Stadium.

With only two ties, three losses, and over 13 wins, the girl’s varsity soccer team make their way to finals. It took not just the individual talents and efforts, but overall efforts and talents.

Doing the most simple things can make athletes of a team closer. When they do it, they do it together.

“Coach Mike had us do really weird team bonding exercises. We also do this thing where we have to hold a water jug that’s full with our feet and take our feet off,” senior Hadley Johnson said.

It does not just improve the team, but the individuals who are making it a team. Soccer is a team sport that takes individual aptitudes and puts them to use for the team.

“The togetherness of our team, that was something that I could definitely learn from- because even though I was older, they’d still include me, also the flexibility of our whole team lined up,” junior Madison Wendorf said.

With new people joining, comes new upcoming leaders for the team, anticipating for a fun season next year. Three captains were picked for the 2022 soccer season, including juniors Nell Smith, Lauren Cuta and Luka Johnson.

“I feel like the younger girls, since we do have so many seniors, they’re kind of quieter. But we need leaders to step up which I think they will,” Senior Maya Notch added.

Going to state finals is a big thing, winning it is even bigger. “Play for the love of the sport and work hard for the outcome,” said Johnson and Notch. Victory is a self-confidence boost that creates validation. However, losing can allow one to learn from it and gain sportsmanship.
