Student Council hosts movie night at Pony Stadium
With the new freshmen added to the high school, there are more students attending the school than ever before. That being said, student council is really focusing on student inclusion this year. To do this, they thought that it would be best to bring the school together for a movie on the football field.
On Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., the classic movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was shown on the football field. All high school students were welcome to watch the movie for no charge at all. Concessions, however, did cost money. Planning and resources were needed in order to bring the event together.
student council President senior Annabel Gregg said. The idea was originally thought up during one of student council’s summer brainstorming sessions. This is the first time that the school has had a movie night outside. Although student council initially wanted to have it on the football field, it turned out that the administration only wanted the field to be used for sports. This meant that students would not be permitted to sit on the field. Though the reason for this was not known, there was some speculation that it was because the field is turf and the administration did not want food to get on it. This has not been the only roadblock for student council however.
“Summer Tuesdays was nice enough to donate one of their screens to us, however, that one has to be staked down, which you can’t do on the turf, so there’s a little inside drama,” Gregg added.
Because of this dilemma, student council had to use a large screen that the school already owned. Once the screen was placed somewhere in the field, a school projector was wheeled out, and the movie was played just like how it would be played in a classroom setting. Very little money and resources were needed in order to make the movie night possible. The event only required a large screen, a projector, some speakers and snacks. These things were important, but the most important part of the movie night was the attendance number.
We just want a huge turn out. If you don’t have anything planned that Saturday night, you might as well come out,” student council Member junior Abdulaziz Mohammed said.
If student council thinks that there was a successful turn out, then another movie night could be hosted as early as sometime in the spring. If the movie night is unsuccessful, however, there is a way to suggest other events. Student council is always looking for new ways to bring the school together, especially this year.
“If you go up to anyone on student council and say, ‘Oh this would be cool,’ then we will always look into that kind of stuff,” student council Member junior Isabella Portelli said.

Overall a well put together article with informative facts and good background to where the idea came from. Quotes were strong which shows that the writer came in with good questions to ask. With a strong opening statement tying in the freshman to the article, it would have been nice to have a freshman interview or at least a younger/male student interviewed. Otherwise a great article!

Nice range in people to interview – just needed a younger student if it was possible. The article has great information on the process that student council goes through to create events for the student body, which students tend to take for granted. The conclusion is a little weak because it ends on a quote that could be explained a little more. Otherwise, well done!
