Nutrition Services in Stillwater is cooking up something new. With a recently appointed chef, the department has updated its meal offerings, bringing fresh flavors, healthier options and more variety to students. In an exciting expansion, the department has also introduced catering services, making it easier for the community to enjoy their meals at events, gatherings and special occasions.
The new chef, who joined the team just a year and a half ago, has focused on revitalizing the daily menu. Meals now include a balance of nutrition and flavor, designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. The emphasis on fresh ingredients and creative preparation has already begun to draw positive attention from students at Stillwater Area High School.
Sophomore Charlotte Krispin mentioned she has noticed a larger variety in meal choices and feels school lunches have also become healthier. Her observation reflects a growing sentiment among students who are seeing noticeable improvements in both quality and selection.

The menu changes include additions such as beef and broccoli lo mein, ramen and chicken tikka nachos, along with many other new and exciting dishes. At the same time, familiar favorites like the pasta bar, orange chicken and pizza remain available, ensuring that students still have access to the meals they know and enjoy. These additions help keep students engaged and interested in school lunches, encouraging more participation in the meal program.
“I think they’re doing a great job,” Krispin said.
Another major change comes in how often the menu rotates. The old menu operated on a two week cycle, which could begin to feel repetitive for students who regularly eat school lunch. Now, menus run on a three to four week rotation, allowing for more variety and reducing repetition. This change not only keeps meals exciting but also introduces students to a wider range of cuisines and flavors.
“By expanding our menu rotation from three to four weeks, we will be able to offer more diverse selections,” department manager Kelley Linquist said.
With the updated menu and expanded services, Stillwater Nutrition Services is demonstrating a strong commitment to innovation and community engagement. New chef Brandon Porter’s vision is bringing a fresh perspective, ensuring that meals are not just nutritious but also enjoyable, flavorful and inclusive for all students. This approach recognizes that food plays an important role in both physical health and the overall school experience.
Nutrition Services has long been a key part of SAHS, providing meals that support student well-being and academic success. With the addition of the catering program, their reach is expanding beyond the cafeteria. Students, staff and community members can now enjoy these meals at personal celebrations, school events and local gatherings.
“Nutrition Services has been offering catering for many, many years. The addition of the chef and second coordinator positions has generated enough support at the district level to start advertising what the department has to offer,” Linquist said.
The growing catering program allows Nutrition Services to share the same quality meals served during the school day with a wider audience. Whether it is a school function, a community event or a private celebration, the department is creating new opportunities to connect with people through food.
As these changes continue to take shape, it is clear that Stillwater Nutrition Services is moving in a positive direction. By combining creativity, nutrition and community outreach, the program is redefining what school meals can look like. The updates are not only improving the daily lunch experience for students but also strengthening the connection between the school and the broader community.
The transformation of Nutrition Services shows that even small changes, like a new chef or a longer menu rotation can make a big difference. With fresh ideas and a focus on quality, Stillwater is proving that school food can be something students genuinely look forward to, both in the cafeteria and beyond.
