SchooLinks and Direct Admissions are transforming the college application process and enhancing student access to resources. As these programs come together with different local schools, they create pathways to allow students to easily go from high school to college. These programs will truly benefit students now and in the future.
Students can use SchooLinks for career exploration including looking at market trends and data. These programs also have digital tools that consolidate various colleges and career readiness activities into one platform making it easier for students to send their applications, get scholarships and do other related tasks. These tools include a parent portal and also support over 900 languages for non-native speakers. Minnesota Direct Admissions tells students a list of colleges they will be admitted to before even applying.
Direct admissions take the stress off of students financially because of the free college applications. There are a lot of great things to say about all of the beneficial things Direct Admission has to offer.
“There are a lot of kids who find the process so incredibly stressful that they maybe are not applying to as many colleges because of the financial barrier,” Steil said.
Additionally, these programs, students will automatically see if they can get into over 55 colleges in Minnesota with their grade point average. Instead of using their ACT/SAT scores, college essays and transcripts.
“Our counseling team will send seniors a letter saying if you have this GPA, you are automatically accepted to these colleges,” Steil said.
The importance of this method is that students can take the weight off of their shoulders and they do not have to worry about all of the extra work that goes along with the process.
“Seniors have completed over 300 college applications already with another 435 college applications having been started. The earliest college deadlines are weeks out,” Piras said.
Students have already begun to apply or send applications to Minnesota colleges earlier than previous years because of the SchooLinks and Direct Admissions easy and affordable process when applying for colleges. Piras explained how efficient these programs have been.

“They ultimately will make the job of a school counselor easier and the information we share with students more effective when paired with these programs,” Shern said.

“We hope this also leads to more students attending college if that makes sense for them and their post-secondary plans,” Piras said.
