Social studies teacher Kevin Klancher walks into the school ready for another day of teaching his students about U.S. history. He sets up his computer and lays out his plan of the day while his daughter Brynne drives to school. Brynne walks straight to her father’s class once she gets to school to see if he has any snacks for her. As Klancher teaches his classes, Brynne always stops in to get anything she needs from him or even just to bug him a little.
Klancher sometimes forgets his daughter Brynne even goes to the school because she does not have any classes near his room this year like she did the past couple of years. However, the moments he does get to see her are so special to him and he gets excited to be able to see her when she is at school.
“I’d see her everyday. But now I kind of forget that she’s even in the building because she’s got classes away from my room,” Klancher said.
Similarly, both his nephew, Henry Klancher, and Brynne, enjoy being able to see their uncle or dad at school everyday because it lightens their mood a little. Nevertheless, it is a very special moment that they get to share with their family getting to see them out and about and not just at family gathering and family events.
“It’s cool to see him everyday,” Henry said. “I like that I get to see him everyday,” Brynne added.
Klancher has many nieces, nephews, kids and in-law that go to the high school. He likes being able to see a lot of different family members everyday, because if he did not work here he would not see them that often. This shows how family is one of the most important things in a persons life. Family helps shape the person that we become.
Klancher talked about how fun it is to get to be able to see his family, but it is also a little strange and he kind of tends to forget and then runs into them and thinks that it is funny.
Sometimes, Brynne will walk into his room unexpectedly looking for some stuff she needs. Klancher never knows when she is going to walk in and he never knows what she is going to take from him.
“Usually she’s looking for food or gum or something like that, maybe money, credit card,” Klancher said.
Although, Brynne has had many different teachers throughout her school years. None of them come close to being her favorite teacher. When Brynne had her father as a teacher she got a good grade in the class and she enjoyed the class.
Brynne said that Klancher is her favorite teacher “because he’s my dad”.
Klancher ends his day after seeing lots of his family members at work with a huge smile on his face. He loves being able to do the job he has always wanted to do and see his family, which is so special to him at the same time. Brynne had a fantastic day being able to learn and see family that she normally would not get to see if it were not for school. Family is a very important thing to most people.
“it’s fun to have them in the building when I do see them and and talk to them for a little bit,” Klancher said.
