The varsity girl’s tennis team believes that encouragement is the most important way to unite a team. At the courts, the girls are visibly proud of their teammates when they are winning and demonstrate uplifting energy when they are losing. Their sense of community is important for friendships and team bonding. “Everyone on the team, whether the c-team or varsity, is always so encouraging even if you are winning or losing the game,” varsity tennis player Mallory Servais said.
Varsity player, Mallory Servais expressed that a positive mentality is the key to being an objectively good player. If someone does not come to the court with the right mindset, then they are likely to receive an outcome that one does not favor. Through words of encouragement from teammates, players are seen performing better.
Varsity player, Lydia White shares that her passion for tennis started when she was in 7th grade. Lydia enjoyed the sport so much that she decided to continue playing because she enjoyed building skills and making friends. “My favorite part about being on the tennis team is the friendships I have made while on it,” varsity tennis player Lydia White said.
Varsity player, Anna Dahlin provides insight into succeeding in tennis. She shares that it requires a lot of practice and time on the court to improve skills. It is also important to practice during off-seasons to work towards one’s goals.
“A lot of practice. Sometimes you just go out and serve for like an hour, and just keep doing it,” varsity tennis player Anna Dahlin said.
