Speech team kicks off their season

The Speech Team meets every Wednesday from November until April in the English flex room. They practice speaking to each other while at the same time having a good time. "Our coaches talk to the students to not only inform them about the competition, but to also learn more about each individual," junior Governess Simpson says.

Junior Tim Kromer is interacting with the crowd of people and is having a blast being the DJ at Snoball. A person in the front is cheering on Tim while he is DJing. “I love when people listen to my music and once I get going it just feels amazing,” Kromer said.

Nordic skiers that participate in nordic skiing primarily do cross country and mountain biking for their fall sport. Cross country and biking helps maintain the endurance and muscle needed for the intense work needed for nordic skiing. The girls nordic team is doing a light warm up to get ready for practice. “Including captain practices for me I usually get a weekend between sports,” sophomore Siri Bohacek said.

Athletes transitioning from fall to winter sports

Some alpine do fall sports mainly cross country of soccer to stay fit for alpine skiing. They take them to gain endurance and or leg muscle. These are roller ski's that athletes use to ski when there is no snow. "I do cross country mainly to get ready for alpine," junior Joe Weber said.

The weight room is a place to be for athletes training up for the winter sports. Many of them are wrestlers who are trying to gain or lose weight to get into their desired weight class. “I do football and weightlifting to stay in shape for wrestling,” junior Tyler Olson said.

Sam Hanson is racing in the state cross country meet at St.Olaf college. Not only is he on the varsity team for cross country but nordic as well. He is going to be transitioning from cross country to nordic once the cross country season is done. "For now I'm choosing to finish up cross country before I start nordic," Hanson said.

The basketball players are training for the upcoming basketball season. " I think there is sufficient time between seasons," sophomore Siri Bohacek said.

Along with the stadium being turfed, these fields will also get turfed so that the athletes can practice on them more often. When it usually rains or when it gets wet the fields get muddy so when you go play on it, it gets ruined for the rest of the year. "We will have three new turfed practice fields," Athletics Director Ricky Michel said.

The parking lot is going away and they will be extending the main parking lot. They will be adding a new weight room and new fitness center. The wrestling gyms will then go to where the current gymnastics gyms is and the gymnasts will get their own. "We will also add a gymnastics area," Principle Rob Bach said.

This parking lot is going away and in its place will be the new Pony Activity Center. As it being a new Pony Center it is going to be part of the new entrance to Pony stadium. In it will be the new indoor track that will be open to the public. "In the upstairs part of the Pony Center we will have an indoor track," Athletics Director Ricky Michel said.

The Pony stadium is going to be turfed so that it is more durable for athletes to use. When the fields gets turfed it will not get ruined when it rains and or snow. As well as the stadium getting turfed they will be adding a new bathroom and concession facility. "We are going to have a new turfed field in the stadium," Athletics Director Ricky Michel said.

These tennis courts will be moved for the expansion of the Pony athletic center. What will be here will be a bus round-a-bout for athlete drop off. "They're moving the tennis courts," social studies teacher, Matt Kiedroski said.
