Donald Trump needs to be impeached, not removed from office
October 8, 2019
Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry on Sept. 24, after news broke that President Trump asked Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine to investigate Trump’s rival, Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Democrats were estatic about the news, but did not think of the potential outcomes. Trump needs to be impeached, because he has committed multiple impeachable crimes. Nobody is above the law, and he needs to pay for his actions.
If Trump is impeached, he will be put to trial for asking a foreign government to get involved in the 2020 election. If he is found guilty, which he most likely will be, considering the majority of the House of Representitives support his impeachment, he will be impeached. If he is impeached, a vote will take place in Senate to decide if he is removed from office. The Senate is majority Republican, the chances of him being removed from office are very slim.
“I think Trump should be impeached, just because he has committed impeachable offenses so many times, and he acts like it is not big deal, when it really is,” Senior Elsa Persson said.
Most Americans think that impeachment means an automatic removal from office, but that is far from the reality. Impeachment is simply a trail or investigating someone in public office, after speculation of breaking the law. Trump has broken the law, therefore he needs to be put on trial for his actions.
Trump getting impeached is good, it could weaken his election campaign. Trump getting removed from office is bad, if Trump is removed from office, Mike Pence would take over as the President. Pence is a raging homophobic governor from Indiana and the Vice President. Pence stands for restricting women’s right to healthcare services such as birth control and abortion, he passed one of the harshest religious freedom laws, claiming that businesses are allowed to deny service to LGBTQ+ people, and constantly walks the fine line of seperation of church and state.
“One of the biggest cons of Trump getting impeached would be that Mike Pence would take over, and he could have to power to make more drastic changes against women rights and LGBTQ rights,”senior Sophie Macafee said.
Many Republicans state that in the Ukraine transcript Trump never specifically asked Zelensky to investigate the Bidens for his re-election, he just asked for an investigation. This is true, but why else would he want a foreign government to investigate his rival in the upcoming election. This is the Republican’s strongest case for Trump, but it will not be enough to stop the impeachment. Unless some ground breaking news come out, the chances of Trump being impeached are high
“There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it… It sounds horrible to me,” Trump said in a conversation with Zelensky.
Trump must be impeached for these actions. He thinks that he is above the law and can do whatever he wants, and he needs too taught that is not the case. Even though Trump will not be removed from office, his impeachment will play an important roll in his re-election, and hopefully weaken his chances of winning the 2020 election. We cannot let our President continue to commit impeachable actions, he must be stopped.
