Senior Holly Newton writes down plans for building the robot. “I feel much less overwhelmed going to the competition this year over last year because we are a much more experienced and organized team with many new talented people helping us out,” said junior Joey Fedor.

Engineering and robots are a fascination of many.  The Armada Robotics team combines these and uses them to creatively build leadership skills and experience.  With the help of experienced mentors, the team is able to build robots from scratch and bring them to competition.

Last year the team won first place in the FIRST State Championship, titled Rebound Rumble.  It is a three day event where robotics teams from around the world create a robot and bring it to compete.

On March 27-30, Armada will be competing in the championship again.  This year the event is titled Aerial Assist.  The Armada team hopes to do the best they can in competition again this season.

“I feel much less overwhelmed going to the competition this year over last year because we are a much more experienced and organized team with many new talented people helping us out,” said junior Joey Fedor.

When it comes to competition, the robotics team gets excited.  They spend weeks preparing for the three day competition.  Through hard work and the help of experienced mentors, the team has fun building and is ready to compete.

Fedor said, “A lot of hard work and patience goes into the robot; there are many times when a great idea does not work, but you just need to keep trying until a new one succeeds.  To prep for the competition we create a robot that can do many very different tasks. To do this, we go through different stages of building and programming with lots of trials and error.”

Being a part of the robotics team is a great way to experience new things and get a view of real world engineering.  Each member enjoys all the preparation and hard work that goes into each robot and the thrill and excitement of competition.

“The robotics team is a very fun and a great learning experience for real life problems. It shows what working in a fast paced career like robotic engineering would actually be like. We do many things on the robotics team from developing and building robot in six weeks to building new relationships with others,” said Fedor.

The Armada Robotics team is looking forward to another successful and fun competition.  After weeks of preparation, hard work and fun, they feel ready to compete.
