Mermaids call to local author Anne Greenwood Brown
Local author Anne Greenwood Brown has been writing hit novels since 2011, with her most recent being the trilogy of the “Lies Beneath” books. These books kickstarted Brown’s career after the many submissions of stories and ideas to local companies and agents. Random House was interested in her pieces and decided to take the novel to publish. Brown writes her stories from personal experiences along with having a wild imagination. Brown wants her readers to have an escape when reading her books, and certainly some readers in Stillwater do.
Brown knows that it is a long and nagging process for a book to be published, and that is only if a publishing company is intrigued by the story. Once the story is published, she is not guaranteed a large amount of proceeds from the book sales.
Dealing with these drawbacks is certainly daunting, not to mention movies are not guaranteed to be based on hit novels. Brown, regardless the circumstances, still continues to write for her fans, readers, and the general public.
An author is not something Brown initially saw herself as. Rather, she sees herself as being someone with a good imagination that enjoys writing stories for fun. Brown shows her appreciation for her followers by writing a story that will provide them both entertainment and an escape from their everyday lives.
“I just write the story I want to read and hope there are others lie me somewhere out there,” Brown said.
Living in Stillwater, Brown enjoys writing her stories about people. Her most reoccurring theme being where someone starts in a bad place and needs to overcome it. Some of her other story ideas came from news segments, YouTube clips, or from people she sees on the street.
Some authors say story ideas are born everyday, everywhere, including dreams; the fact being that was the case for the start of Brown’s trilogy, “Lies Beneath.”
“The idea actually came from a dream. I had been working on a novel with normal people set on Lake Superior when I had a dream about one of the characters diving off the rail of a boat and bursting out with a tail. I woke up in the middle of the night with the character saying in my head, ‘I hadn’t killed anyone all winter, and I have to say I feel pretty good about that,’ and that became the first line of the novel,” Brown explained.
Brown provides the community with entertainment that will appeal to all ages, and she will continue writing stories for years to come. Brown’s current piece of work is about a girl who is on juvenile probation and a hockey player who is dealing with the tragic death of his sister and girlfriend. The two meet and try to help each other through a difficult time in their lives. As Brown continues to entertain local readers, we will eagerly be waiting for her next piece of art.

I like the idea that Anne wants the reader to have a escape when they are reading a book. To be so into a book that you forget where you are is awesome. I love that the idea for her book actually came from a dream.

Very well written article! I haven’t personally read any of Brown’s books, but after reading this article I might look into reading a few! It’s nice to read of a successful local author, and I intend to check out her upcoming work!

Wonderful, wonderful story! I love the fact that some of the “drawbacks” to being an author were put in. It helps show how difficult it can be to make a living as an author. But I really like the way that every paragraph just fits together so well! I’d love to read more stuff from Braden in the future!

It is no shocker that Braden Classon wrote incredible article, the work that I have seen by Braden really impresses me and wants me to pay more attention to things he writes in the future. The story line of the “Lies Beneath” trilogy sounds incredibly intriguing and is something that I want to read in the future. This highlight of an article brings light to some of the local talent we have in Stillwater, Classon does an incredible job of showing this in this piece!
