There is a club at Stillwater Area High School that is created to help out in the community and the school called Key Club. Key Club is a world renowned club that is run by students at the high school level that want to help not only the community, but themselves in the process.

Last year, Key Club only had about 20 students participating. This year, there are over 80 students who work to accomplish goals that would normally take hours, but now only take minutes. This club is a part of a larger club called Kiwanis International.  It is a club for adults that want to make a difference for their community just like Key Club.

The leaders are working to make this club interesting by doing different events.

Brooke Espelien,  junior and co-president of Key Club said, “We meet every other week and then we go out into the community and do service projects like helping out at Valley Outreach. We clean up the stadium after home games, participate in Rake a Difference, and do bell ringing in the winter.”

Key Club has goals to grow into a larger club and help more people. Not only helping the community, but also being active in the community.

Savannah Johnson, junior and co- president of Key Club said, “Communicating better with the community and helping out all around makes the community a better place to live in.”

Key Club couldn’t run without the help of the students it represents. The leaders of the group have worked hard this year to get more students involved with the club.

Kristen Diedrerichs, junior and secretary said, ” I think one of the biggest parts is last year Key Club was a brand new club and we had only about 20 members at the end of the school year, which for the first year is not bad. We were still getting the hang of it and this year we put in a lot of effort. Last spring, four of the six officers for this year went to a convention about Key Club and learned a lot more of what our jobs were as leaders. With that information, we came back with stronger ideas and things we want to do this year, so as a club we increased our members to over 80.”

Key Club is a group of friends and peers who want to help the community and make a difference. This does not just help others, it helps people grow closer with the community and become giving people. The club wants more people to join to make a larger impact.
