With over 40 million in the box office and counting, “Reminders of Him” is gaining popularity. We were expecting it to be neither disappointing nor very entertaining, and we were not usually fans of romances or dramas. But we were pleasantly surprised watching it for the first time. This one will definitely be on our rewatching list. What really caught us off guard was how deeply it pulled us in emotionally with their great actors, Maika Monroe, who played Kenna Rowan, and Tyriq Withers, who played Ledger Ward. The story built its impact through quiet and meaningful scenes and slowly built the plot of what really happened that night. Kenna’s life went off the rails. As the plot unfolded, we could understand their struggles, regrets and hopes in a way that stayed with us even after the end. Making you reflect on second chances, forgiveness and the weight of the past. By the end, we realized it was not just a good movie; it was a good movie with a meaningful message behind it.
What makes “Reminders of Him” so good in our opinion, is how real and emotional it feels without trying too hard. The movie does a great job of showing feelings like guilt, love and forgiveness in a way that feels genuine instead of forced. The characters like Kenna Rowan, played by Maika Monroe, and her journey of coming back to her town are very powerful. From the moment she returns, there is a tension that shows how much her past still follows her, making every interaction feel important, and how everything reminds her of him. The flashbacks of her life before the accident with her boyfriend Scotty Landry are woven into the story in a way that slowly reveals what really happened instead of telling viewers all at once in little memories. When she meets Ledger Ward, a former NFL player and local bar owner who was also Scotty’s close friend, their relationship builds gradually, filled with hesitation and moments that show both pain and understanding. As the story moves forward, all the memories come rushing back to her time with Scotty, the joy before everything went wrong, the baby, the prison time and the accident that changed everything.
These moments are described and shown in a way that makes viewers feel the weight of her regrets and the difficulty of trying to move forward. The plot is well developed, so you can actually understand the characters’ choices and connect with them on a deeper level, giving important moments to hit emotionally. On top of that, the message about second chances and healing really stands out, making it more than just a typical drama or romance movie. It explores how forgiveness is not easy or immediate, but something that takes time, effort and vulnerability.
It is the kind of movie that sticks with you because it feels honest and meaningful, leaving a lasting impression through its emotional depth and realistic storytelling.
However, what we didn’t like about “Reminders of Him” some parts of the movie feel overly dramatic and unrealistic at times. The characters often make decisions that seem forced just to increase the conflict and keep the movie going, which can make the plot harder to believe. Also, the story follows the same or similar plots of many other drama and romance movies. This makes the plot predictable, and at times the plot goes too slow, making it hard for viewers to be engaged in the movie. The plot also only focuses on a couple of main characters without going into depth on any side characters. This made it kind of hard to understand why the side characters should have an impact on the main characters as much as they did. In our opinion, this kind of took away from the movie.
While “Reminders of Him” has its flaws, it is a surprisingly moving and engaging film that defies expectations. The performances of Maika Monroe as Kenna Rowan and Tyriq Withers as Ledger Ward are compelling, bringing raw emotion and authenticity to their characters’ struggles. The story unfolds at a deliberate pace, using quiet, intimate moments and carefully placed flashbacks to reveal the weight of past mistakes and the complexity of forgiveness. Though some parts feel overly dramatic and the plot occasionally predictable, the emotional resonance and the message about second chances and healing give the movie depth beyond a typical romance or drama. It is a film that lingers with you, making you reflect on relationships, regrets and the courage it takes to rebuild a life after loss.
“Reminders of Him” is more than just a book adaptation or your average romcom. It has very deep emotion, well-experienced actors making a visually compelling film that will resonate with you past the end credits. Author Collen Hoover delivers a powerful message about forgiveness, second chances and the complicated nature of love and redemption. While the movie explores very heavy themes, there is also comedic relief. Making the movie a very fun and interesting watch. We highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys character-driven, heartfelt stories that make you have to see past first impressions. It’s a very memorable watch that reminds us how growth and healing are possible even af ter the hardest mistakes.
