The official trailer has come out for “Wicked: For Good”, and it looks phenomenal. Just from the trailer, it will definitely be one of the most popular movies of 2025. All the original characters, along with some new ones, will be appearing in this film. It looks like the perfect mix of thrill, action and emotion. Almost every single review I read from movie critics was positive and had all amazing words to say. Critics describe the movie as “hopeful but sad”.
The overall plot seems very gripping and heartwarming. The relationship between two supposed enemies, Glinda and Elphaba, is actually quite tender despite what it looks like from an outsider’s point of view. Ariana Grande who plays Glinda and Cynthia Erivo who plays Elphaba, are tremendous actresses. They both play their roles perfectly and just about every movie critic has stated the same.
“Wicked: For Good” is focused on the consequences of Elphaba’s actions and how she handled herself in the end of the first movie. In the end of the first “Wicked” movie, Elphaba had discovered the truth of the great Wizard of Oz. The Wizard had tricked Elphaba into allowing him to use her magic in order to unlock the spell book to torture monkeys. Elphaba quickly realized she does not want to have a part in that and escaped. The Wizard of Oz became very upset over this and convinced the town that Elphaba was an evil witch. Now, it is up to Elphaba to leak the full truth of what really happened and to save her friendship with Glinda.
While a majority of the movie will be about Elphaba and her journey to expose the truth of the Wizard of Oz, this film will also go more in depth of the backstories of Glinda and Elphaba. Elphaba and Glinda have a complicated relationship as Elphaba is hated by the town and shunned away from her home and Glinda is loved by all and treated like a queen. Due to their vastly different stories, it has interfered with their friendship and created a wedge between them. The second movie will show how they overcome these complications and not let it come in between them.
The film will also be a bit of a crossover with the classic “Wizard Of Oz” movie, as the original characters, Dorothy, the scarecrow, the cowardly lion and the tin man will make an appearance. It is said that the lion is the same cub that Elphaba and Fiyero saved in the first movie. The scarecrow and the tin man are also supposedly her former classmates.
In the first movie, the soundtrack was impressive and won multiple awards including the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album and iHeartRadio Music Awards. The most famous song, “Defying Gravity” unfortunately won’t be included in “Wicked: For Good” but there will be some songs from the original movie like “I’m not that girl” that will be making a comeback along with some new ones like “No place like home”, sung by Elphaba and “The girl in the bubble” which is sung by Glinda.
I absolutely recommend watching “Wicked: For Good” on Nov. 21. It looks phenomenal and entertaining. The effort and emotion that has gone into this movie and the first movie is astounding and I cannot wait to see it.
