Varsity girls hockey goalie Haley Solnitzky has turned years of dedication into a major milestone. The junior recently committed to play Division III hockey at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, fulfilling a dream she has carried since first stepping onto the ice at 4 years old. Known for her determination, leadership and consistency in net, Solnitzky has become a trusted presence for her teammates and a key part of her team’s success. Her commitment reflects not only her growth as an athlete, but also the support of her family, coaches and teammates who have helped shape her path to the college level.
Solnitzky has established herself as a key part of the girls hockey program through years of experience in the net. She began playing hockey in early childhood, and as she developed, she grew comfortable handling the pressure of the goalie position. Now, as a varsity starter, she balances technical skill with mental discipline.
Solnitzky said she has “always loved” playing goalie and enjoys the unique responsibilities that come with the position, which has helped her stay confident under pressure.
Contributing to her growth, a major factor in Solnitzky’s development has been her commitment to improvement outside of regular practice time. She consistently arrives early to face additional shots and focuses on refining the small details of her game, a routine that has helped her adapt to the physical and mental demands of a long high school season.
“She sees a lot of shots before practice even starts,” JV head coach Courtney Stevens said. “That constant attention to detail is a big reason she’s so successful.”
Solnitzky’s reliability in goal has allowed her teammates to play with greater confidence, knowing they have a steady presence behind them. This trust has strengthened the team’s defensive structure and chemistry, especially during high-pressure moments in late games.
In addition to her on-ice performance, Solnitzky has taken on a leadership role within the team. As she has gained experience, she has become more vocal and supportive. As a result, she now helps teammates stay composed after mistakes and focus on moving forward.
“She’s always encouraging us and reminding us to learn and move on,” Laska said. “That’s something everyone respects about her.”
Solnitzky’s consistent work ethic and team-first mindset contribute to her commitment to play Division III hockey at UWRF. Specifically, during the recruiting process, she prioritized finding a program where she felt comfortable both on and off the ice. For Solnitzky, college hockey represents an opportunity for growth beyond just the game.
Solnitzky said committing to UWRF was a meaningful step in her career and emphasized that the support she received from coaches, teammates and family played a key role in reaching that decision.
