“We have them in our hearts,” senior Shona Chandan said. Chandan, along with juniors Simone Warlick and Liz Gibson, are the leaders of the Create for Kids Club, which was introduced to the school this year. This club helps bring a smile to children in hospitals by gifting them positive cards and paintings while also making it a fun activity for club members.
Create for Kids is an organization with branches in India, Singapore, Canada and other countries. They are very inclusive by spreading their organization all around the world.
Create for Kids also encourages “other people to make chapters in their own school,” Chandan said.
The purpose of this club is to brighten up the children in hospital days. This is possible by gifting them positive cards and inspiring paintings.
This is beneficial because “there are so many children that struggle in hospitals and are having a really rough time, so getting cards from other kids is really beneficial to their mental health while doctors focus on their physical health,” junior club member Lydia Zollar said.
Although the main focus of this club is to motivate children in hospitals, Create for Kids also provides an opportunity for club members to learn empathy. Empathy is very important for students to learn because it gives them an understanding of how different their lives are from others.
Giving back to those in need is valuable not only to those being helped, but also to those who are doing the helping. This is because it provides a positive environment and a chance to do something good to feel great.
Warlick said that being a part of Create for Kids has enlightened her about the significant impact she can make by doing such a small act.
Create for Kids will continue to utilize arts and crafts to share joy with children in hospitals around the world. Not only will this club bring joy to these children, but also create a kindhearted environment within the school, influencing students to share their positivity with those who need it most.
