Colombian American singer songwriter Kali Uchis released her new album “Sincerely,” on May 9. The album is smooth and emotional, talking about life’s ups and downs and trying to find happiness even when things get hard. Kali made this album after having her first baby with her partner Don Toliver making it a really special and personal project for her. “Sincerely,” also features a mix of different music styles, from heartfelt songs to upbeat pop, showing her versatility as an artist.
While fans were eagerly waiting for the full album, Kali Uchis gave them a preview by releasing two singles “Sunshine & Rain” on March 27 and “ILYSMIH” on April 25. Both songs gave a glimpse into the emotional and personal themes of the album. Over the years, Kali has built a strong reputation earning nine Grammy nominations and winning one for Best Dance Recording showing just how talented she is in the music world.
“Sincerely,” by Kali Uchis follows her mostly Spanish album “Orquideas”, which came out in 2024. Before that her previous English spoken album was “Red Moon In Venus“ released in 2023. This shows how she moves smoothly between languages and styles in her music.
This album delivers a powerful and heartfelt message about the importance of family, which feels especially meaningful given that Kali Uchis recently became a mother for the first time. Welcoming her child has clearly influenced the themes and emotions throughout the record making it deeply personal. Kali herself has shared that “Sincerely,” is the most meaningful and impactful album she has created so far.
The songs on “Sincerely,” show just how much Kali Uchis can do with her voice and style. One song, “All I Can Say,” sounds a lot like something you would hear from an old-school barbershop quartet. It is soft, emotional and has beautiful harmonies. Then there is “Breeze!,” which is one of the catchiest and most pop-sounding songs on the whole album. It is upbeat, fun and easy to sing along to with a beautiful production and a melody that sticks in my head. These two songs are on opposite ends of the album’s style showing how Kali can switch things up without losing her unique style. From slow and emotional to bright and playful in this album, she mixes different sounds in a way that still feels true to who she is.
While listening to the album for the first time, I took notes on each track and rated them on a scale from one to five. Most of the songs earned a solid 5/5 with the lowest score being a 3/5 – but still impressive. My favorite song on the album was “Territorial.” It sounds like it belongs in a beautifully shot spy film with its amazing instrumentals and stunning vocals. The entire track feels cinematic and mysterious, and it deserves to be featured in the soundtrack of the next big spy movie.
To support the album, Uchis announced her first headlining arena tour, the “Sincerely, Tour,” set to commence on August 14, in Portland, Oregon and conclude on Sept. 25 in Denver, CO. The tour will cover major North American cities, including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami, New York City and Toronto. Uchis will be joined on tour by special guests Thee Sacred Souls.
This album is all about finding the good in life through the love of family. It is emotional, honest and exactly what fans needed from Kali Uchis. Every song feels personal and well made, making it a beautiful listen from start to finish. “Sincerely,” is the kind of album that makes you feel something, and that is what makes it special.
