The color run was a fun, anticipated new school event in October. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to low participation. This event was organized by adviser Dusty Dennis and Student Council. This event will now be held in the spring at the practice fields.
The color run was created to boost school spirit, and bring students together. This is the first year the school would be doing it. Participants are encouraged to dress in all-white outfits, which quickly change as they are showered with colorful powder along the run.
“By the end, you’re covered in neon chalk. It’s really wacky,” Student Council Advisor Dusty Dennis said, reflecting the fun nature of the event.
The entire event was organized by the Student Council, with Dennis serving as an advisor. He explained that ideas for events like the Color Run come directly from students, as he primarily offers guidance and helps them stay on track, aiming to give students a new way to connect outside of typical school events.
“The ideas are from students. I’m just there to keep them on track,” shared Dusty Dennis. This year, they are planning more events to keep students engaged all year long.
The Student Council hopes that the Color Run, and future similar events, will foster a stronger sense of community. “We want people to be engaged and wanting to participate,” Maysen Puhrmann, co-president of the council said.
The council’s goal is to offer events nearly every month to keep students excited and involved.
Color Runs in other schools and communities often serve as fundraisers. The main purpose here was simply fun. However, if the rescheduled spring run sees greater participation, the council might turn it into a fundraiser.
“If another club wants to partner with us, then we can make it a fundraiser for both,” said council member Bennett Balok.
Additionally, news of the color run was spread only days in advance, this did not give people enough time to sign up. Student leaders plan to spread the word earlier and generate excitement for the spring event, they hope to bring in a lot of people for this fun, spirited event.
Looking ahead to the spring, the council is committed to making the Color Run an annual event that celebrates school spirit and brings students together. Student Council hopes this to be a vibrant, community-focused event. By involving more students and spreading the word early, the Student Council hopes to make the run a nice, little fun tradition, bringing students together for a colorful event.
