Sam is a busy person. He referees soccer anytime of the year, except in the winter, which he swims for the high school. He is also an Eagle Scout, which he is proud of.

Even though senior Rob Enright first became interested in the Rubik’s Cube many years ago, he still likes to play with one every now and then. He said. “When I was really into it, I used to just sit down, scramble it, and time myself solving. Then I would scramble it and time myself solving it again. Now, I play with it every couple days for about 10 to 15 minutes.”

Solving a Rubik’s Cube is no easy task. There is only one solution out of 43 quintillion different arrangements that can be made. “There’s a specific set of algorithms, patterns that you turn the cube in, and then solving a Rubik’s Cube is basically about recognizing when to use each algorithm, when to use each pattern, and then actually being able to do it,” senior Rob Enright said.

The Rubik’s Cube has created many new puzzles over the years in many different shapes and sizes. “The most challenging kind of Rubik’s Cube is probably the 4x4x4 because it has a lot of parodies, which are things that can’t happen on a 3x3x3,” senior Rob Enright said. “There are a lot of very long and complicated patterns that you have to do to unsolve it. I don’t like it because it takes forever to solve it.”
