Joe Rice is 17 years old. He is a Print Editor-in-Chief and he loves learning about all of the things going on at the high school. He likes to walk in nature and he loves Queen Elizabeth and spending money.

Boys and girls alike are participating in the up and coming twitter fights that seem to be taking over social media.

English and newspaper teacher Rachel Steil may have blond hair, but she still looks eerily similar to a young Barbra Streisand. Streisand had brown hair and didn't wear glasses but both have very similar faces. "I think she is very talented and has a beautiful voice," said Steil in reference to Streisand.

Principal Rob Bach tries to relive his college glory days by shooting some invisible hoops in his office. Bach has been compared to pro athlete Kristaps Porzingis, a basketball player for the New York Knicks. Bach says, "One similarity between us [Bach and Porzingis] is that I did play basketball in college at St. Olaf. I love basketball and so does he [Porzingis].

The award is something that takes copious amounts of time and effort working with the community in order to be earned. "It represents leadership abilities and commitment to the community," said Balfanz.

Liz Nelson has to deal with a wide variety of difficult situations in her job but she says, “The most difficult aspect of the job would have to be the politics of education. Sometimes the parents and the student have a very different idea of how an issue should be addressed or resolved.”

As a counselor, Nelson has a lot on her plate, from dealing with insubordinate students to helping prepare students for their futures. “We do alot of behind the scenes work with kids and their families as well.” Nelson added when talking about her daily duties as a high school counselor.

Photo by Mackenzie Bottolfson“I love working with kids and everyday I come to work and get to work with them,” said Nelson. She also added, “I get to follow them on a journey that is filled with ups and downs and I love being there for them when they need me.”

Nelson truly enjoys building up a lasting relationship with her students so when something bad happens to one of them, she is deeply affected by it. “Honestly, losing a student is the hardest part of this job. When I lose a student I have known since they were fairly young, it is the worst feeling in the world.

“Before I was a counselor I worked with special ed students at Stillwater Junior High.” Said Liz Nelson when asked about previous careers. “What I loved the most was being able to grow close to families and really get to know the students. That is why counseling seemed like a natural choice for me.” Nelson clearly chose the career that was made for her!
