As every American knows, the day following Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. On this day millions of people flock to all different types of stores in search for the best deals on gifts for themselves or loved ones.

Although not everyone celebrates the unofficial holiday that is Black Friday, it is quite clear that many do. It is no secret that it is the busiest shopping day of the year that employees dread, but for many high school students it can be a great event.

The Mall of America has taken a big step this year by deciding to not open their doors until Friday morning. This has upset many, but has also given many relief knowing they can sleep before heading out to find the world’s preeminent gifts. Whether students go shopping on Black Friday because of their friends or because they actually like the deals, they almost always enjoy themselves.

“I shop on Black Friday because I love how competitive it is! It’s such a good feeling when you beat all of the other crazy people to find the one thing you wanted,” junior Erica Lemcke said.

There are many other reasons that people go Black Friday shopping, besides competitive spirit, and the even the deals. Students go to enjoy themselves and have an adventure of sorts.

“I shop on Black Friday to save money because I love finding deals for the things that I want. Being a high school student, it is important to save your money for college,” senior Lexi Kroening said. Being able to scout out deals that could genuinely save you hundreds is always a great feeling.

People’s favorite stores to go to vary on whether they are shopping for themselves or for others. Students go as far as making a game plan for the entire event, maps included.

“I like going to Sephora, Victoria’s secret, and Nordstrom because they always have super good deals, and they have a little bit of everything. Plus they always have really good gift packages for Christmas,” senior Addie Scholtez said.

Some of the deals on Black Friday cannot be beat. These deals are what people crave for the holidays, what they cannot get enough of. Why buy something for $100 when you can get it for $80 or less on Black Friday?

“The best thing I’ve ever gotten on Black Friday was a Calvin Klein jacket that was marked down 100 bucks, which was crazy!” Scholtez said. If people are willing to brave other aggressive shoppers in order to get the best deals and find the best gifts, it is usually worth it in the end.

Overall, Black Friday can be a really great bonding activity for students and their friends. When going shopping on this crazy day, students have to remember to be cautious, but still enjoy themselves. Also, finding those great deals can be very helpful for anyone who is on a budget.
