A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars made its debut to the world. The day was May 25, 1977 when the famous series first hit the theaters. An immense 22 years later, the prequels debut and are just as popular. The year is now 2015, 16 years later after the prequels and 38 after the original series, we finally have the sequels. Star Wars quickly became a dominant force in culture.

The legacy of Star Wars isn’t just limited to immensely popular films, it also dominates the video game franchise; the newest title being Star Wars Battlefront. This third installment of the Battlefront series hit shelves on Nov. 17 in North America and was an instant success. It is expected to sell 9-10 million copies in the fiscal year ( Nov. 17 – Mar. 31, 2016).

Star Wars Battlefront is a action game based of of the Star Wars galaxies and planets. The game focuses on multiplayer mode and online. The player and their pals can travel the planets terrain and soar through the sky in a variety of vehicles and airships, battling and exploring along with friends or random people online. Almost everything is customization, from the character, to their looks, their gear, weapons, abilities, and more. The game lets the player choose what side to choose as well, good or dark. Familiar faces are playable as well such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett, the infamous Darth Vader and more.

Junior Bennett Friedrich, possibly one of the biggest Star Wars fans, talks about how he got started with the revolution that is Star Wars.

“My love for Star Wars goes back to probably when I was 5 or 6 years old. My dad sat me down, made me watch the first movie, I didn’t really understand it but I saw a light saber and I thought that was just the coolest thing ever and from then on I instantly fell in love with Star Wars. Watching all the movies, all the time, until I’ve memorized every scene, every line, every word.”

I have yet to purchase the new game. I hope to buy it eventually, I just have to find time for it. It does however look amazing. Visually it’s very beautiful and to me looks like it will live up to the movies.

— Jack Franz

With the release of this new game and the brand new movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, everyone one seems ecstatic about the Star Wars series as a whole.

Senior, Jack Franz, an equally huge fan of Star Wars, shares his experience, “It’s something that has brought me closer to people my entire life, strengthening relationships creating new friendships and as a result carries with it a warm sense of love.”

Franz talks about his thoughts on the new Star Wars Battlefront and if he will get this new game, “I have yet to purchase the new game. I hope to buy it eventually, I just have to find time for it. It does however look amazing. Visually it’s very beautiful and to me looks like it will live up to the movies.”

So far, sales for Star Wars Battlefront are doing great as it has secured its spot as the biggest launch ever by a Star Wars game. It has sold 117 percent more units then its predecessor game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. So far it has reached the fourth spot for best launch of every video game in 2015 just behind Fallout 4 , FIFA 16 and Black Ops III.

Friedrich talks about how he thinks the sales will do in the future, “I think sales for the game are going to sky rocket. This generation, primarily 7 year olds up to 17 year olds have been kind of deprived of the Star Wars era and we’ve been so thirsty for it that with this Battlefront game coming out, everybody is going to go out and buy it and will try to get their hands on it. Especially since the [previous generation gaming consoles] had no Star Wars games.”

With the huge span of time between the prequel, original, and sequel, generations of fans differ greatly. Those who grew up with the original are middle age now, those who grew up with the prequels are in their late 20’s, and now our generation gets to witness the release of the sequels. Now is prime time to hop on the Star Wars bandwagon and see the legacy in all its glory.

“People should definitely buy the game and also see the movie. Star wars at its core is something that is extremely fun, so playing it or watching it will defiantly bring joy to their lives,” Franz said.
