“Our basement is Disney themed,” said senior Laura Serier proudly. “We have Mickey Mouse hands that hold the toilet paper and then one that holds the towels. Also we have a Mickey’s nightmare puzzle that my brother and I put together and now it is taped up on the wall.” Serier will be going to college in hopes of working for Disney one day.

“I hope to work as an Imagineer for Disney World-which is in Florida-to be able to design some new attractions for that park,” explained Serier.

An Imagineer is a person who devises and implements a new or highly imaginative concept or technology, in one of the Walt Disney theme parks.

Imagineers possess a broad range of skills and talents, and thus over 140 different job titles fall under the banner of Imagineering. Jobs include illustrators, architects, engineers, lighting designers, show writers, graphic designers and many more.

The Imagineers have been responsible for many of the new features people see when they go to Disney World today. One example is the new Fantasyland and the new Seven Dwarves Mine Ride.

Serier said what she would want to create as an Immagineer, “I don’t know. Gosh I really don’t know….. Everything. Yep everything.”

Senior Vessa Pearsall has been friends with Serier since they were both five years old.

“Laura talks about Disney at least five times a day not to mention her Pinterest,” said Pearsall. “She is very head strong about this and will not take no for an answer, she is even looking into colleges that offer a program to intern/work at Disney.”

Besides aspiring to be an Imagineer she also loves to sing in the Stillwater Vagabonds, play piano, hang out with her friends and volunteer at the Courage Center.

“I volunteer at the Courage center once a week, in the fitness center. I usually help people out with their work outs, you know set weights and record their progress,” said Serier.

To Serier she feels that working at the Courage Center is very rewarding and it makes her thankful for what she has.

“I love my downstairs it makes me feel at home,” said Serier. “Being a part of Disney is the last thing I think about at night and the first thing I think about in the morning. I can’t wait.”
