Varsity hockey player sophomore Luca Jarvis recently moved up to the United States Hockey League. Following a great season and finishing second place in the Minnesota State hockey tournament, Jarvis is taking the next step in his hockey journey.
Jarvis got into hockey through his dad at a young age, knowing it was something he wanted to pursue seriously right away. He always wanted to play in the USHL and knew it was something for the future of his hockey career.
“It was exciting, I knew it was gonna be an opportunity in the future and I was happy to be able to get the call up,” Jarvis said.
Jarvis is a positive guy who has a great mindset about everything. Especially still being a young student-athlete, he has shown many great qualities of maturity and being a great teammate.
“Luca is very determined, he takes care of himself whether in the gym, getting rest or training on the ice, etc. He is a sponge when given information and is willing to try things to be successful,” coach Greg Zanon said.
Jarvis had a dominant sophomore season on varsity with 48 points in 30 games, including 8 points in the state tournament. Moving up to the USHL will be a new level of hockey, and there will be new challenges that he will have to face.
“Initially you have the challenge of adjusting to the speed of the game, but after that just finding my spot and putting myself in a good spot to continue playing my game,” Jarvis said.
Jarvis has a lot of great skills on the ice that are hard to defend. He will continue to use many of those at this higher level, but he will need to adjust to the pace of play difference as well as longer seasons.
Jarvis is fast, shifty and he scores a lot of goals, especially the scrappy goals in front of the net when he does not give up junior Ben Chard explained.
There has been no surprise to anyone on Jarvis making this jump to the USHL. He has all the skill sets needed, including great leadership qualities and hard work.
“It’s great to see Luca being given an opportunity to play at that level, he has been such a great player for us in the two years that he has been here. He will do great things with his hockey career,” Zanon said.
Jarvis has a great hockey career thus far, and this next step to the USHL is just the beginning. He will continue to play at the USHL for a couple years, and then he will decide what he wants to do next.
Jarvis has aspirations of playing in the NCAA and playing pro, “that have been goals of mine for a very long time,” Jarvis said.
“I believe the sky is the limit for Luca,” Zanon said.
