With the use of AI on the rise, it has started taking jobs, but at the same time, AI is creating jobs. This has started discussions about how AI is used in the workplace.
AI is starting to be used in jobs, like a personal assistant. Before, it was a niche technology used only by tech nerds; now it has been adopted by most people.
“I feel like it’s my responsibility to stay ahead of trends in the workplace so that I can help students know what opportunities are out there and what skills they need to prepare for success. So I’ve been investigating AI, and it ends up being a conversation that I have with employers a lot. So, yeah, my job isn’t impacted yet so much,” Pathways Coordinator Robert Manning said.
As people understand AI, people are starting to see all it can do. AI is starting to impact many jobs and even take them over completely. One of these fields is customer service, with AI chatbots and virtual assistants being used instead of real people.
English teacher Rachel Steil said I feel like some of the school jobs could be “automated with AI” but I think we’re such a human organization that there are ways “AI could save us time.”
But with AI changing some jobs, it also opens up a lot of new jobs. Such as AI development, data analysis, and tech maintenance.
Manning said AI has replaced “87,000 jobs” but made “95,000”. When automobile factories were made it replaced a lot of people’s jobs but in the end, made even more jobs.
A trend with artificial intelligence is that people use it as a personal assistant to help with workflow. AI is being used to speed up jobs and help speed up people doing the jobs.
Junior Nolan Granquist said he uses AI for a lot of things like help with his math homework or for understanding a book in English. It helps him keep up with his work and turn everything in on time.
Many students may use AI to cheat and help them work on assignments while teachers might use AI to create quizzes and tests. AI is a tool that everyone uses differently.
“We just finished our sports unit and I wanted examples so students could see good sports writing so I used AI not to have to worry about copyright from professional journalists,” Steil said.
AI has changed the world alot and it will keep changing Manning puts it best, “It’s people who know how to use AI will replace you in your job. And so that’s a key point. So I think educators also need to know how to use AI. It’ll make our jobs easier, and it’ll help us probably do what we really want to do more of, which is interact with students and do more of that personal teaching.”
