Ben & Jerry’s releases an innovation in ice cream
March 30, 2014
Almost everyone can relate to having a couple scoops of cold, creamy ice cream on any given day. Whether it is freezing outside, 100 degrees or a loved one just broke someone’s heart, ice cream can be a great companion for most people.
Ben & Jerry’s has recently introduced four new Cores flavors. They include Hazed & Confused, Peanut Butter Fudge, That’s my Jam and Salted Caramel. They plan on introducing even more in the near future. The Cores flavors include two ice cream flavors on each side of a center filled core. Almost the same nutritional value is held through most of all their pint sized flavors.
Junior Tori Dahl said, “I think the Cores line is a new and innovative idea, I have seen ice cream with things mixed in, but never with a yummy core. It is something me and my family will be willing to pick up at the store next time we are there.”
In the past, there was only one Cores flavor called Karamel Sutra. Once that became a popular item they decided to make the step to expand the Cores flavor variety. These ice cream flavors can be found at most stores around town, such as Cub or Target. Lately they have been such a popular item when you go to grab one they seem to always be sold out, but the stores keep restocking.
Junior Ari Schumann said, “I don’t have Ben and Jerry’s a lot, but I would definitely try that. It looks different than most ice cream I’ve seen and that makes me want try it even more.”
The Cores flavors are more sophisticated than the average pint of ice cream. According to Ben & Jerry’s; That’s My Jam is chocolate and raspberry ice cream with fudge chips and is filled with a raspberry core, Hazed & Confused is chocolate and hazelnut ice cream with fudge chips and a hazelnut fudge core, Peanut Butter Fudge is chocolate and peanut butter ice cream with mini peanut butter cups and a peanut butter fudge core and Salted Caramel is sweet cream ice cream with blonde brownies filled with a salted caramel core.
Junior Josh Godbout said, “The names of the flavors seemed very interesting and appealing to the younger generation. Especially the one titled, ‘That’s my Jam’.”
The line seems to be very popular and will hopefully more Cores flavors will be released soon. Ben & Jerry’s seems to be taking over the ice cream business and doing a great job of it.

I love how you started off this article. I love icecream and it caught my attention right away. The descriptive words that you use to describe the icecream really adds to the overall tone and flow of the whole article. I can see though were it would be hard with this topic to relate it solely to people in stillwater.

The article included plenty of information and had a great variety of descriptions. It kept the audience in it, but it would be helpful to relate it to the interviewees and the people of Stillwater.

I think this article was really a fun idea, and you included loads of information and quotes about why their new additions are important. All of the 5w’s were answered, and overall a really nice, thorough job!

I thought the article was amazing and I loved your intro, it really drew me into the article. While the description of the ice cream got to be a little wordy, it still kept my attention with good adjectives. Great Job!

Your writing style is superb and almost flawless. However, I maybe would’ve used a few more quotes, and describing each and every flavor in the third paragraph seemed a little too wordy. You can still keep vivid descriptions neat and concise. The quotes that you did use though were good. Overall, the way you blended everything together sufficiently informed me of the topic and left me without any questions, as it should be.
