Geiser showcases her artistic abilities
January 20, 2022
Lydia Geiser is a senior this year and has been showing off her artistic abilities by creating masterpieces for years. Geiser’s artistic ability is unlike most. She found a way to take simple colors, tools and utensils and combine them to turn it into something amazing.
Geiser said she found her passion for art because, “My mom used to own a scrapbooking store so ever since I was little I’ve been surrounded by a wide variety of art supplies. For as long as I can remember, I have loved experimenting with materials and processes in my art.”
This is why art can appeal to such a large audience because there are hundreds of categories that can be explored and a lot of people would find a love for art if they just tried it out and gave it a chance.
“Many people don’t know what they can be good at until they try,” art teacher Christina Weese said.
Weese directed this classic quote specifically to people that did not know if they have artistic abilities until they surprised her with their art. That is why this is very powerful and meaningful to a lot of people.
“Self expression and interpreting the world around you, & creating meaning… are what brings joy to us as humans. It is one of the major differences between us and the other living creatures on this planet,” Weese said.
Weese has found a way to give her students a wide variety of different styles of art to try to give students a chance to really find their own creativity and authenticity in art. She teaches her class with a perfect balance of freedom in your creativity and learning the actual fundamentals of art with different drawing styles.
“Lydia came to me as a 9th grader who was not enrolled in any art classes at the high school. She wanted to know if I thought she could take AP Art and Design the following year. She brought a sketchbook filled with incredible drawings! I was totally impressed by the quality of the work especially for someone her age,” art teacher Cary Nisi explained.
Nisi said that someone that was not even enrolled in her class, had the confidence to show Nisi her whole sketchbook because in the most humble way, Lydia knew she had a special talent.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
This is a quote from Pablo Picasso who is a huge artist that specializes in mostly abstract or more specifically cubism (art movement that revolutionized European painting and sculpture, and inspired related movements in music, literature and architecture). Nisi explained that this motivated her to become an art teacher and pursue a career in the artistic field.
Lydia has been working hard on her craft for years and continues to make more masterpieces using her artistic abilities. Lydia adds in her own authenticity to all of her pieces, which you do not see much in other art, which makes her artwork extra special.

I especially enjoyed how the second quote you used is devoted to reminding people that they may discover their talent as Lydia did. I think your choice of sources was perfect with the selection of her old teachers.

You have created such an inspirational story while writing about Lydia’s success. It was really cool and interesting how you involved a quote from someone who you didn’t directly interview, but was very influential in the art world.
