Tiana Meador, Online Editor-In-Chief

Tiana Meador is a senior at SAHS and one of the online Editor-in-Chiefs. She enjoys being outdoors, painting, snowboarding, and surrounding herself with positive friends. Currently Tiana plays soccer for Sporting St. Croix and has stared her own photography business. Along with newspaper, Tiana is in journalism and has interests in political sciences, leadership studies, and photojournalism for her future.

The key to photojournalism is to separate oneself from one's interests. In order to expand upon selfish passions, a story needs to be told with every photo. Junior Jack Lange says, “It is a little tough because I think having photography so accessible today has aided in its growth, but also good work is harder to find because you have to sift through tons of pictures to find anything worthwhile and truly good.”

Photojournalism has become a great hobby for those buying cheaper cameras to indulge in an Instagram page. Senior Grace Donner (not pictured) says, “It has helped me [Instagram] get better at taking pictures because I want to have the best pictures possible to post so I try harder to improve.”

Instagram has grown greatly in the past years with usage. With social media queens such as the Kardashians running the game, it has been questioned whether or not photojournalist professions are at risk. Senior Laura Ilkka (not pictured) says, “With so many people pursuing photography it is bound to have many people doing similar things.”

Photojournalist Cary Conover works with journalism students at NSPA’s summer convention at the University of Minnesota. Conover says, “It's not so much the camera quality, it is what has been captured.”

Politics is a huge extracurricular piece to senior Sydney O’Neal’s academic agenda. Participating on mock trial and the Young Republicans, O’Neal argues a point on the repeal of Obama Care. Motivated about her future academic standing, O’Neal says, “There will be I think scholarship money if I get in, if I don't get in I'll still go to the U and go to med school.”

A very social student as well, O’Neal’s presence is definitely felt. Through a Young Republicans Club meeting in Debbie Drommerhausen’s room, O’Neal (pictured center in green) debates with senior Marcus Darby about how health care policies can be much more improved. Senior Alyssa Lammers, the club President says, “She cares about people and school, it shows through all of her actions, which is a great quality for a med program.”

O’Neal (pictured center in green) looks on intentively in class, confirming points the lecturer makes to assure she has a solid understanding. Senior Alyssa Lammers says, “She is very attentive and participates a lot. You can tell she cares a lot about learning not just getting points.”

On top of staying on board with her academics and extracurricular clubs, O’Neal (#3) is a fierce athlete as well. Having played soccer for Stillwater Area High School and for Sporting St.Croix soccer club, O’Neal knows hard work needs to be put in when there is competition. “60 were picked to apply and from that we had to write essays, then they narrowed that down to the 20 and then we had to go to the U of M and do interviews almost all day,” O’Neal says

Students gathering outside the classroom to critique their artwork along with others that hang on the walls of SAHS. “The type of art my students do varies. Some examples are clay, drawing, painting, mixed media, sewing, sculpture and more,” teacher Carey Nisi says.

Some of the art work students are putting towards their portfolios in AP Studio Art. Senior Ellen Bordeaux says “The portfolio assignment is creating art pieces throughout the year in class, and then you eventually submit it to judges. My portfolio is still building, and the basic idea for it relates to mythology.”

Some of the students art work sprawled out across a table in the art room.“Last semester I got a recommendation letter from Weese, she told me I should try AP Studio Art. She was my graphic design teacher last year,” senior Andrea Gomez Molano says.

Howlett (#62) had a strong will to live. What was most important to him was the relationships he held with his students, participating in school events and living in the present. A former administrator at many local schools, Howlett got every involved in sports. Donna Howlett, Howlett’s wife says, “There are even kids who remember him from Benilde St. Margaret’s where he started the girls hockey program, or Centennial, where he was the varsity volleyball coach- he really revamped program when they were in a slump.”

Supporters of Trump were very well spirited while waiting in line. As the sun set outside of the arena, supporters muse about how unfit Clinton is for presidency.

It is confounding to witness such great support for a candidate deemed as a racist bigot, however the crowds Trump drew were nothing less of supportive.

The secret service was required to frisk every attendee, removing any liquids as well. These agents kept the premises secure, which helped keep the protests from escalating.

Waiting to get into the rally was one thing, but the entertaining crowds were another. Many small jokes in agreement spread throughout the crowd as rhis father and his son displayed their "greatest possession of all time."

While giving another one of his infamous speeches, Trump moved his hands in his usual leader-like manner. Suddenly the crowd erupts into chants of,"President trump! President Trump! President Trump!"

Free paper signs were handed out to the masses, blue and white slogan signs and also Women for Trump signs. Not many in attendance went without a sign in hand.

People of all ages, races, and genders wore varieties of the infamous trucker hat. Not once was someone caught having anything short of a good time while waiting to get into the arena.

Meador has participated in numerous competitions over the course of her high schools career, and as every artist has a favorite type of work. "Acrylic and oil portraits are what I like to do," Meador explains. "Although it is not easy because I'm such a perfectionist and every face has different angles to adjust to."

TUesday, October 27 had students such as junior Austin Dowdell buzzing around the classroom. The students, including Dowdell were taking photos and also becoming surprise models. These photos were for their assignments and for others' assignments, making for a pop up photography workshop frenzy. Dowdell says, " Photos are cool, especially photos of myself."

A busy Tuesday in the newspaper flex room left students scrambling around the classroom with their devices. Junior Dylan Cook found his model from afar, zooming in on fellow Junior Colin Gray. These photographers were all around, as they were required to take 7 distinct shots withing the hour. Cook says " I do not pose people, I photograph them how they are, so it is not fake."
