Mariah Marsnik is a junior at SAHS. She went to Oak Park Elementary and Stillwater Junior High. She works at Leos Grill and Malt shop and enjoys playing basketball and watching movies. Her staff position is layout editor and she writes for student life.

Seniors Charlie Skaret, Kai Knudson and Ben O’Malley performed at Winter Coffeehouse and invited former SAHS graduates Lars Stannard and Max Ylitalo up on stage to play the cowbell and tambourine. “Lars and Max play whatever we need them to. They can play anything from auxiliary percussion, drums, guitar, bass, keyboard, as well as vocals,” Charlie says.

Skaret helps Bundbugs become more successful

Seniors Kai Knudson, Ben O’Malley, and Charlie Skaret performed for the concert wind symphony’s haunted ELC fundraiser. “This was our first gig so we were just testing the waters at that point. It went very well considering the limited practice, but we could tell itd go somewhere,” Charlie says.

Seniors Ben O’Malley, Kai Knudson and Charlie Skaret practice in Charlie’s garage, a place known as the “Lounge.” Former SAHS graduate, Max Ylitalo joined them for this gig. “There are two people who are somewhat honorary members of the band. Lars Stannard and Max Ylitalo, they both graduated last year and we like to jam and hang out together when we can. They play live with us on occasion too,” Charlie says.

Seniors Kai Knudson, Charlie Skaret and Ben O’Malley were thrilled when they found out they won Battle of the Bands. “Obviously winning Battle of the Bands was huge and it helped to justify all the time we’ve put into it,” Kai says.

Seniors Charlie Skaret, Ben O’Malley and Kai Knudson were getting ready to take their place on stage at Battle of the Bands. They were unaware of what the future had in hold for them. “We definitely thought we were going to lose, I thought that during the first act. We just went out there with no desire to win but just wanted to put on a good show and somehow it went our way,” Kai says.

Leo’s is a popular restaurant downtown Stillwater. It is busiest in the summer when the patio is open and the line of customers at the walk-up window is often wrapped around the corner of Main Street.This winter has been a busier one for Leo’s with the Ice Castles and Hockey Day Minnesota bringing many people downtown. “Being the owner of Leo’s is really a lot of fun because everyday is different and the customers are always changing,” Cory Buettner says.

Edy Ramirez and Timothy Johnson are two of the dedicated staff members at Leo’s Grill & Malt Shop. Among other items on the menu, they make delicious burgers on the flattop grill and are often cooking alongside Blue Buettner. “I don’t think being a server is the job for me, I like making food more,” Blue says.

Seniors Samantha Gater and Janae Rothe are proud to be working for Cory Buettner at Leo’s Grill & Malt shop. “The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff is just awesome,” Blue Buettner says.
