Erin Lemanski is a junior at Stillwater Area High School. She is a photographer on the Pony Express. She runs track for Stillwater and plays on the basketball team. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with friends, taking photos, and reading. She is also very involved in Washington County 4-H.

The Kiwanis Club is the adult version of Key Club. They partner up with the Builders Club to help guide them in the right path. “Yes, we partner with the builders club and I think it’s a great idea because we all work together,” sophomore Sintra Nichols says.

Builders Club improves community early on

Students at SJHS are helping their community one service project at a time. They are expanding their knowledge on their community, and hoping to expand to a bigger Club. “It's not necessarily families that Builders Club helps, but it's the community and their school. They help out with service opportunities that come their way,” junior Jordan Wallace says.

Many students at Stillwater Junior High are taking on a new leadership role. With the builders club they can help to strengthen their skills, while still improving the community. “I love feeling like I am able to do something so rewarding with my time. It’s nice to have that feeling of such productivity while still helping so many people with the work we do,” sophomore Sintra Nichols says.

At Stillwater Junior High School, the students are building up a new club. The Builders Club is rising to the surface to help students become more involved with their community. “I joined Key Club because it made giving back to the community a much more accessible experience. I think people should join the Builders Club because it allows people to do this at a younger age,” sophomore Sintra Nichols says.

The club itself is like the middle school version of Key Club. At the Builders Club, the students plan and carry out service projects for the community. “We reach out for and receive opportunities from a variety of organizations who need assistance in doing activities, maintenance, really anything they could use a little extra help with,” sophomore Sintra Nichols says.

The kids clothing trend is taking off throughout schools. Students are buying name brand clothing in the kids section for a cheaper price. “Not only does everything fit me better, but you get the extra perk of things being less expensive,” junior Linnea Rustad said. These deals help students to buy more for less.

Kids clothes, a money-smart choice

By living in a colder climate the pricing of winter clothes goes up because it’s a necessity. To beat these drastic prices during the winter months, patagonia is a big seller for cheaper children’s clothing. “I like to look around Patagonia for winter clothes because they are great quality. They sell the same styles in the kids section, so it is nice for me because I can save a lot of money on it,” junior Chelaina Daniels said.

However, the downfall to this trick is that sometimes the quality is not always the greatest. “Sometimes the stuff isn’t great quality, but since I don’t only shop in the kids section it doesn’t bother me. It might wear out quicker, but it’s not that bad” junior Hanna Gaertner said. Other than this small problem shopping in the children’s section is not a bad idea.

When shopping around the mall it is important to look at both sections. A student might be missing a money saving deal by only shopping in “their section”. “I like finding things that are in my sizes, and also, they tend to be less expensive, which is a plus. I avoid the childish styles, but then can often find styles and outfits that are trendy now, and are unique in that not everyone else is wearing the same thing,” junior Linnea Rustad said.

Some students use the trick of shopping in the children’s section so their clothes will fit better on them. This is because most children’s sizes go up to size 14, which is roughly a size two in juniors. “Because I am petitie, these stores offer things in my sizes, and all around fit better. I like the quality and styles,” junior Linnea Rustad said. This way students feel better about the clothes they have.

When finished with the pages, one can decorte their room with them. “I like to fill my walls with the pages I finish. It really helps to add my own personal touch to my room,” junior Maddie Meissner says.

Since finals are such a big part of a high school student’s life, stress is bound to come with them. Students have found new and improved ways to cope with their stress. Sophomore Lindsey Purrington says, “Coloring helps me to ease my mind. I find myself doing better in school when I give myself a few minutes to myself.”

The new Adult Coloring books help to relieve stress. “As a student, we have high expectations set on us. So, it is nice to have a few moments to ourselves. These books help us to do that,” junior Ryan Bump says.

Coloring has been known to help the artist express themselves. “If I’m feeling creative, but don’t know what to draw, the books have already designed pages for me to fill in,” junior Maddie Meissner says. With these books you can color inside the lines, or outside.

Coloring is just another way for adults to calm their minds without going to a psychiatrist. “The coloring books help with anxiety a lot. It is something I have full control over in my life. I control the colors and page,” sophomore Lindsey Purrington says.

Lokai bracelets are meant to help tell a story. “I feel like the bracelets are for teenagers and older, not only because of the sizes, but also I don’t think they would relate to the story behind them,” said Sophomore Lauren Hafner. The idea behind them is to balance one’s life and create peace.

Lokai was founded by Steven Izen whose grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This was one of his lowest points in his life. “I saw people wearing them and I asked them what it was about, and when I found them in downtown Stillwater I bought one,” said junior Megan Felsch. Everyone has highs and lows in their lives, the trick is to keep yourself balanced throughout them.

Most returning customers will buy the lokai bracelets for the story behind it. However, most do not know that there is actually water and mud in the beads. “I thought the story behind them was interesting. People would tell me that there was no water or mud in the bracelet, but I still believe there is,” said Sophomore Lauren Hafner. Lokai goes through a lot of work to create each bracelet.

Lokai donates 10 percent of their profits to charities, which is why junior Megan Felsch bought one for herself. “I like the saying and it went to a good cause. Also I had wanted one for a while, and I was really excited when I finally found one,” said Felsch. One of the most popular bracelet sold, aside from the clear one, is the pink one. When purchased $1.80 will go to the Susan G. Koman fund.

Inside the bracelets is water from Mount Everest to represent the highs of a life, and mud from the Dead Sea to represent the lows in life. “After I read about it I thought the idea was really cool,” said Sophomore Lauren Hafner. This is the main reason why people buy them.

In newspaper junior Cailey Boisvert is learning about creating the perfect caption. Photo stories require a caption to go with each photo. These captions should be like a mini story within the picture. "It can be hard to think captions for five photos, especially since you have to have five." says Cailey Boisvert.

In C217 Allie Langness just invited all reporters to a bonfire at her house Nov. 13th. Junior Cailey Boisvert sounds eager to attend the event. There are going to be s'mores, pizza and of course the fire. "I am very excited to attend this party, it will be a great way to get to know all the reporters." says Cailey Boisvert.
