Coaches put athletes through a series of exercises to help get them back in shape and ready for the season. This year the coaching staff has grown and the team will benefit because of it. "We have a coaching staff of eight. This means that at any given night out on the hill there will be 3-5 coaches, some rotating in every other night. It'll be exciting to see how much we can improve from this increased staff," senior Claire Weber said.

The team works hard at conditioning and endurance exercises to prepare. "We have a very solid women's and men's team this year. I'm very excited for both teams, I think they will do very well," Mark Schwantes said.

Claire Weber is one of the captains this season and leads captain's practices everyday after school. "We are a very young team, being that the majority of the kids lie in the junior high schools. We have a very deep varsity that extends into our junior varsity, and we should expect some incredible races performed by everyone," Weber said.

The Alpine team takes practices very seriously. Right now practices are indoors while they prepare for the upcoming season. "Right now all we are doing is dry land work outs. I played soccer which kept me in good shape but for the kids who have been out of sports for a while, it's really helpful to them to get back into shape," junior Patrick Allan said.

"The women's team lost a lot of seniors last year but we have some very good upcoming younger skiers that will help us this year," Mark Schwantes said.

While Rose Staubner is finishing her work on photography for improving the classes's plus one stories in newspaper class, she takes the time to pose for a photos. She especially enjoys her first hour and says, "I'm so glad we are learning about how to take better pictures for our stories."

Taking a picture of Eric Longnecker, junior Samantha DiStefano works on her photography skills. The newspaper class is focusing on improving the quality of their photos by practicing the 7 different types of shots. She quickly finishes her work and says, "photography is definitely one of my strong suits."

Students in Amnesty International discussing new methods of fundraising during the Oct. 2 meeting. Senior Erica Oren said that the club has, “We have a few ideas for some fundraisers but we’re not sure they're going to be as effective."

Senior Erica Oren, one of the presidents of Amnesty club, speaking to junior Corri Gardner during the meeting on Oct. 2. Oren’s goal is to work with administration to sell a healthier version of popcorn “...because that’s a better option than just cutting out all together.”

Deb VanKlei, the HealthyMOVES PEP grant coordinator. She is the head of the grant that would bring our school $2 million in federal funding. The purpose of the grant is to “ provide a lot of professional development in regards to overall wellness, which includes physical activity, nutrition and food offerings.”

The brand new popcorn machine that was going to be used this year. Students don't want to see the popcorn machine go. Senior Erica Oren said, "I definitely think they're [the students] are going to miss popcorn... its very popular and everyone likes it".

The butter that is used to pop the popcorn is what is causing the health concerns. Deb VanKlei, the HealthyMOVES PEP grant coordinator said, "What we want to look at it the type of oil we pop the pocorn in and still offer popcorn."
