Marcus Theaters offer home experience
January 13, 2014
The Marcus theater in Oakdale has revolutionized through their new seats and upgraded layout.
Just a couple months ago, Marcus theater in Oakdale has added their new seats called “dream lounger” seats. They are red reclining seats that seat two people comfortably with a big cup holder and armrest. Throughout the theater there are 17 screen rooms, and the wish for Marcus is to have all 17 theaters equipped with the dream lounger seats by Christmas.
Usually when people go to the movies, the moviegoers have to worry about someone very tall going to sit in front of them blocking their vision, or the tall person has to worry about their long legs stretched out bugging the person in front of them. With the dream lounger seats, there is enough space to see over any height, and the dream seats recline and have a lot of leg room for a six foot person.
Junior Amanda Williams said, “It is just really, really sad being so short. Like, I go the movies, I am just trying to relax and watch some cinematic magic, and then bam, some giraffe sits in front of me. Instead of watching the movie in peace I am left in tears and my popcorn goes to waste.”
This time of year people really are searching for something to do that involves something of that person’s enjoyment and involvement of warmth due to the frigid winter. An option most people tend to choose is just to go and watch a good movie at a movie theater. However, usually moviegoers get very iffy about going as a result of the uncomfortable seats and small space between them and the other guests around them. The new dream lounger seats fix all the issues with the old seats.
Sophomore Abbie Johnson said, “I won’t go anywhere else; the reclining seats are like you are right at home and the comfort is a ten out of ten.”
Junior Sarah Matschi added, “Not only are they comfy, they can fit three people comfortably in one chair if you lift the armrest, which is nice so no one feels left out.”
Some great additions to working at Marcus is that the employees get to see the movies for free with also the benefit of using the dream lounger seats to their use and get it for no extra charge.
Senior Valerie Lucas said, “Working at Marcus has its benefits, like getting into movies for free, discounts and work experience.”
Since the Oakdale theater has installed the new recliners, business has been rising to the occasion with booming results.
Lucas said, “I have noticed that ever since the dream lounger seats have been placed, the theaters that have them are sold out or close to it.”
Marcus theaters will never be the same with the new and improved reclining seats for anyone and everyone.

I agree with Clara, it is a bit dramatic, but it’s right on point. These new DreamLoungers are the best way to watch a movie. It is like sitting at home, comfortable, watching a movie on your huge tv. I like the quotes you got, and Abbie is right, a lot of people only go to Marcus now because of the DreamLoungers.

I think this was a good idea for a story, because so many people are able to relate to it and go experience it. I think it would have been cool to see the view of someone working at the theater, talking about how business has changed since the addition of the new seats, but this is still a really good article, good job!

I think this article is a little dramatic about the new seats, but it’s with good reason- I’ve been there a couple times since they replaced them, and these “Dream Loungers” really are quite comfortable. They’re just like the couches in my basement. The part on what it’s like to work at Marcus is sort of a tangent, but the article eventually gets back onto the topic of the seats. The lead and description of the seats & their benefits was well written. Overall, nice article!
