Local attractions provide fall opportunities
November 5, 2016
Fall is the time of year where outdoor activities are a must. It is a great chance to walk around and enjoy the view of all the reds, oranges and yellows. Stillwater residents live in a town where they don’t have to drive very far to go on an adventure.
Stillwater has many nature sights including Fairy Falls, Aamodt’s Apple Orchard, The Boomsite and Brown’s creek trail. Each of these sights has a very different experience to offer. Deciding on where to go to depends on what group of people are planning on going to these locations. These sights are family-friendly, full of activities and are a must to visit in the fall.
Fairy Falls is the place to go to if you are in the hiking mood. From the name, it is probably evident on why people go to Fairy Falls, and that is for the falls.
“Fairy Falls is my favorite place to go to during the fall time. I would definitely recommend going there with friends because it’s a great spot to hangout and take cool pictures,” junior David Leintz said.
It is located in the Downtown Stillwater area on Highway 95 North, so it’s right in the heart of Stillwater. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
It is a place to spend time with family or even friends. Anyone of any age would have a great time there. The activities that are available there would work with anyone, from 3 to 73.
For a more laid back day, Aamodt’s apple orchard is the place for you. “I’ve been working at Aamodt’s for 3 months. Aamodt’s is very popular with families with young kids. There’s many activities for the whole family to enjoy including tractor rides, apple picking and making your own cider,” junior employee Taylor Sharon said.
The Boom Site is probably one of the most popular nature parks in the area. The Boom site is right along the St. Croix River, so while people are walking around exploring, they have a beautiful view while doing so. The Boom site is famous for the cave it has there, but that iss not the only thing they have.
There is a bonfire pit right down the steps from the main entrance that is available to the public. It is a great place to hang out, talk and roast marshmallows.
Brown’s Creek Trail is a place to go to in the fall time. The trail is surrounded by trees, so it would be a perfect time to go while the leaves are changing color. It is a popular trail to go biking, roller blading and running on so it is a place that you go to to alone, or with friends as well. The trail extends from Downtown Stillwater and all the way to St.Paul. That is an 18 mile journey which is worth the trip.
All of these sights are all within 10 minutes of each other, so a full day could easily be planned visiting each place.
Junior Courtney Friberg said “There’s always something to do in Stillwater. You can never get bored here.”
