McKenzie’s class helps fulfill 8-year-old’s wish
Laurie McKenzie’s sixth hour class is making steps towards eight-year-old, Safyre Terry’s, Christmas wish. Terry suffered burns to more than 75 percent of her body in 2013 after an arson attack was launched. The attack killed her siblings and her father after he shielded her in the attack.
This year, Terry has a card tree able to hold 100 cards. Normally, she receives 10. This year she is hoping to fill her tree. McKenzie’s class is helping her achieve her goal.
“We are trying to help her reach her goal. Her aim is 100 because she can fit 100 on her tree,” junior Victoria Vogel said.

“Since the attack, she has demonstrated incredible bravery. She has had over 50 operations. She lost her right hand three months after the fire and lost her left foot in March. She is now experiencing problems with her mouth due to tightening scar tissue,” senior Paris Harvey said.

It would have helped to know other people’s opinions on the card tree thing or get some other kind of perspective, but it was an alright story. Really sucks that most of her family died.

Although it is short, for time constraint issues, you are fine, I found this a very powerful article. Short, concise, and thought provoking. My eyes stopped at “he shielded her..” he gave his life for his daughter. Wow.

In such a short amount of words so much was said and it was just enough for the reader to understand, get intrigued and actually get into the piece. The quotes also helped with background and added an emotional element to the article. Good piece.

This story was short and straight to the point. I loved how you added the amount of cards she usually get and how the class wants to help her get to her goal of 100. Allie you added and emotional imagery of her face and how she is experiencing problems.

Although a short article, this was a very touching story. The quotes really pull at the readers heart by having their emotions revealed. The beginning of the story really pulls the reader in, nice hook.

This was a well written, short article. It stated everything it needed to say while also using creative words and good language. The quotes were very useful and added a lot to the story with real peoples feelings and emotions. I like how you made the story flow in order of what happened and didn’t jump around. Short and sweet!

This story is short but straight to the point. This was a tragic story that appears to have a happy ending.

This was a very short and to the point story, which is nice because the reader doesn’t get bored. Although the length is nice, it seems sort of detached. This has the potential to be a focus story on Terry. I think it would have been nice to go more in depth on what the tree is and why it is important to Terry. Overall it was a very touching story but has a lot more potential.

I liked how you started off by telling us how many cards she wants to get and how many she normally gets each year. The quotes were great at helping understand what she went through.

The story was perfectly summed up to get the point across while still touching the reader’s heart. The quotes were great and really added necessary information to the story.

This story is short, but very heart touching. I liked how you explained everything the beginning and explained how many cards she originally gets a year. I also enjoy the quotes you collected.

The quotes were great, they really helped you understand just what she is going through and the struggles that she faces. The opening told you everything you needed to know and kept you wanting to know why this class was doing this.
