With a voice that radiates any room and a personality that brightens anyone’s day, it’s no wonder she has played major roles in two school productions. Junior Jayna Davis, is a star in the making, and she is definitely making it.

Last winter, Davis played the role of Rusty in the production of Footloose. This fall she will be starring as the young heroine, Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. However, these are not her only theatrical experiences. Davis has been involved in the theater since the second grade, her first role being Molly in the movie and musical, Annie. It was movies like those that first inspired her to join theater.

There is no secret to her success, simply extra practice and hard work outside of rehearsal as well as in. Davis is dedicated to making her performance the best it can be, running lines, rehearsing songs and dances at each available moment. With the busy schedule of a high school student and play rehearsals, Davis has a lot to keep up with, but she still manages to excel in both.

“I have actually learned that if I have a packed schedule, I tend to get my work done more efficiently so it works out. I just make sure to use my free time well,” Davis said.

Theater has been a major part of Davis’s life for many years. She has a passion for music and has the ability to share the beauty of any song with a crowd. Not only does she share her voice, but also her warm personality with the entire cast. She loves having the opportunities to meet new people and be a part of the creation of new productions, and then showing an entire audience all the hard work.

Davis said, “I enjoy theater because it is such a fun thing to be able to get to know a cast and for everyone to work together to create something big. And performing is such an exciting feeling.”

Davis will star as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, opening on Nov. 1. The cast has been rehearsing for weeks now and she is excited to reveal everything they have been working on. Although she says Rusty, in Footloose, has been one of her favorite roles, she is excited to perform as Dorothy.

“I’m so excited to play Dorothy! Just thinking about actually performing everything we have worked on gives me butterflies. It’s awesome,” said Davis.

Performing is something that just seems to come naturally to Davis. She has the talent and the perseverance to steal the show and be a part of every production she can. Davis isn’t just in it for the stardom, she’s in it to make friends and do something she loves, something that makes her happy. The thrill of the performance is what keeps her constantly striving to be her best; fame and recognition are simply added benefits.
