The Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted Fields of Faith, one of its most anticipated events, on April 19, where students and leaders gathered at Pony Stadium to share powerful personal testimonies.
This marks the second Fields of Faith event organized by FCA this school year. The first, held in Sept., 2025, was a major success, bringing together dozens of student-athletes for an evening of worship and connection.
Junior and student leader Levi Winters said that both students and the athletic trainer relayed the stories of their walk in faith. He added that after hearing such powerful stories, “there was just a sense of reflection.”
Stillwater’s huddle is just one of many, as FCA has grown into an international organization. With more than 1,800 huddles across 115 countries, each group shares a common goal: helping athletes connect their faith to their sport.
“FCA’s mission is to see every athlete and coach led into a growing relationship in their faith, and so I would say leaders in FCA do a great job of that by modeling how to be a Christian themselves, and then encouraging their classmates,” social studies teacher and FCA advisor Mitchell Weege said.
Weege is actively involved in the school community through teaching and coaching basketball. He supports events like Fields of Faith by promoting attendance and guiding student leaders.
“What I love about FCA is that it’s student-led. It’s all driven by them. So they brought this to the table, and then I helped them secure the stadium…and just kind of the behind-the-scenes stuff,” Weege added.
FCA coordinates a variety of other activities for its members, including broomball nights, worship mornings, and regular Monday evening meetings, where students read scripture and explore its meaning through group discussion. In the past, FCA has also volunteered by picking up trash around the athletic fields and packing food at Valley Outreach.
Junior member Gavin Backstrom said his favorite parts of FCA are these bible studies because he gets to see the same people every week, and it helps him develop a more positive outlook on life.
As FCA begins to wrap up for the year, events like Fields of Faith highlight the impact the organization has on students both inside and outside of athletics. Looking ahead, FCA coordinators aim to expand tangible service opportunities within the school community while continuing to build a space where students can support one another through collective experiences and leadership.
