Teenagers are reaching a stage of development of gaining jobs, and become less dependent on certain sources such as their parents. Parents or guardians want their teenagers to get jobs in order to learn and be more independent. During this stage of development, teenagers are impacted by these influences and actions both positively and negatively.
Teenagers having to deal with jobs can impact them in many ways. This allows more growth, maturity, more independence and being more self aware, as not everything in the outside world is not always positive. Parents or guardians want their teenagers to have jobs and be more independent, so that they do not need to depend on them in a long run. Teenagers understand independence while also having some eustress in the process.
Junior Jack Lamkin explained his thoughts and feelings of his job as how it impacted him. Jack Lamkin explained that his job at Cub Foods is just an average experience to him. Lamkin explained that he gets paid with a balanced wage and works in a healthy amount of time, and he is used to it.
However, Lamkin explained his flaws of his job by having less free time, and he admitted that the outside world can sometimes be “scary” to him.
Teenagers having jobs always have pros and cons. No matter how well they start, there will always be some strengths and flaws of their jobs, and how they deal with it. Teenagers’ jobs can also impact them in many ways, and it can affect their ability to do specific tasks such as homework. Teenagers can have high payments and a fine quality job, while also having some low duration hours and less freedom.
Lamers explained one of the strengths is that he “gets paid a lot and just fine.” He also said one of his flaws of being “less free” when it comes to his personal free time.
“One of the pros is that I get paid a lot. I’m able to pay for my own things. However, I do have less free time, and I have to stay up a bit late to do things such as homework after work,” Lamers added.
Not every job that teenagers have are great. They might hit a point where they want to change jobs in order to seek balance in their mental and financial health. Teenagers can have poor conditions such as low hours, poor timing, low wages or anything that impacts their mental and financial health.
Junior Louis Vrambout explained that his job “was not great.” Vrambout explained that his job at Stillwater Bar & Grill does not pay him too well compared to other jobs he saw. Vrambout also said that he is currently searching for a new job due to his job’s low wages.
“I’m quite broke often. My job doesn’t really pay me that much, which is why I am currently looking for a new job. I mean, I do work two times a week, but there are better jobs that pay better than that based on what I’ve seen,” Vrambout said.
“The downsides of my job is that I have less freedom to myself meaning I can’t do homework that easily. I sometimes have to pay for my own food, and I have to pay for my own gas money. But, I usually stay up late to try get some work done, and at least I get paid,” Lamers said.
Teenagers are becoming more independent both financially and personally can impact them in many ways. Understanding how financial and the outside world works greater, better communication with others. However, not every aspect of this stage is not flawless as there are many impacts that can affect it.
