Many people have their own versions of what home is. While some will call a place their home, some will call a person their home, but for others, it can be a show, just like “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” People have called the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” book series home for years and finally after years of waiting, on Dec. 20, 2023, the first episode of the new TV series was released on Disney+.
”Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is a book, show and movie about a boy named Percy Jackson. It follows him through one summer when he was 12 and his world completely changed. After being kicked out of his school, Yancy Academy, Percy is brought to Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods, kids who are half-human and half-god. He later goes on a quest with two of his friends, Grover and Annabeth, to stop two gods from fighting, which would lead to the destruction of the world.
The “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” show is an enchanting and mythical journey with just enough excitement to be perfect for kids and adults, while being unique and teaching people about Greek Mythology. It is an excellent mixture of learning and enjoyment.
Prior to the show being created, the first book in the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” book series was released in 2005. Ever since, the series had become a gigantic sensation, kicking off a period of novels for young readers, such as “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent.” For years, people have read and fallen in love with the series. It has shaped and impacted people’s lives for years. Fans have asked for an adaption of it for years and it has been wanted even more after the failure of the 2010 “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” movie. Therefore, one of the most important aspects of this show is how it aligns with the book series, and it does. It succeeds in staying true to the book while making itself stand out. There were a few changes in the storyline and how exactly things went down, like in the Medusa scene, but it overall represented the book in an authentic and captivating way.
People were extremely excited for the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” movie. Unfortunately, the movie did not perform as well as people hoped for. Many fans were disappointed with many things associated with the movie. For example, the fact that the storyline was very far from the storyline of the book and the characters in the movie were not the age they were supposed to be. When the show was announced in 2020, fans thought that this could be the comeback and adaptation that “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” deserve. Also, this show was co-written by the author of the books, Rick Riordan, making people hope for a better representation. Overall, the show was a well-needed comeback and depiction of the book. It is a series that kids can grow up watching and falling in love with and gives the books the justice they deserve after the attempt of the movie.
One thing that parents look for in a show for their children is new information. Parents love it when their child watches a show that teaches them and this show is all about Greek Mythology. While watching this show, kids will laugh while finding out things they never knew about Greek Mythology. Not a lot of media for kids entails Greek Mythology and that makes “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” unique. Also, not all components of Greek Mythology are kid friendly but the show stays appropriate for kids and makes Greek Mythology a fun and creative aspect of the show. The basis of Greek Mythology makes the series stand out and make it so much more interesting than all of the other fiction and fantasy books. It expands kids’ knowledge greatly all while being a creative and exciting experience.
It has been years since triumphs like “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games” have graced the screens and brought amazing storylines and television to kids. Many shows and programs have attempted to reach such success but have not been able to prevail. Although, Percy Jackson has that potential with how it has already succeeded compared not only to the previous movie but to other kids shows. Thus, Percy Jackson beautifully combines captivating writing, a carefree experience and a unique premise. It is a perfect family show and a wonderful replica of the sensational book series it is based on.
