Second Reverend Deeg brings promise to girls golf

The varsity girls golf team is in for a change this year. With a new coach who has so many things to offer, the team is getting the fresh start that they need.
This season looks promising for varsity girls golf with a new coach, Peter Deeg, and three senior captains: Amanda Wolf, Maddie Louma and Katie Clark. The girls are already familiar with Deeg and are excited to work with him at this new level.
Last year, delayed weather patterns set the girls back. It did not stop them from going to the girls golf state tournament, but it brought stress and chaos that was not beneficial. This year, the team has a better vibe and is closer already.
Senior Rachel Billingsley said that with Deeg, “The dynamic of the team will be more unified, all of us girls acting and feeling like one team.”
Deeg has worked closely with the team the past few seasons. The girls know him well, and are looking forward to the many good attributes that he will bring to the team.
“Peter brings great characteristics and abilities to help the team. He has such a positive attitude going into every round. He also is very knowledgable about the game. He also creates game plans for each course we conquer which helps us where to aim our shots, the way the green breaks and helps us create a better environment for each round we play,” said senior Maddie Louma.
Many qualities go into the making of a great coach and Deeg has a lot of them. A coach that you can relate to really helps the dynamic of the team. Another very important quality is experience, which Deeg has so much of.
“One of the great things about Peter is that he has a lot of experience in the high school golf field. His sister used to play on our team and he played on the boys team when he was in high school,” said Wolf.
The seniors on the team are excited for the new season and want to make it the best one yet. They are all going to continue to play throughout their life, although none for a college team. It is a lifelong sport that they plan on always enjoying.
“I am just excited to be at the course and outside everyday again playing rounds and hitting balls. I also have many of my close friends on the team and am excited to be with them. The excitement of competing and working towards state again. Playing a solid round is the best feeling in the world,” said Louma.
Keep an eye on the girls golf team this year. This season will bring some improvements and hopefully another trip to state. With their new coach and high hopes, anything could happen.
