Grace Donner is a photographer for the Pony Express Newspaper. She is a junior at Stillwater Area High School. She enjoys taking photos in her free time if she is not diving or skiing on the high school teams. Some of her other hobbies are hanging out with friends, watching movies and traveling.

The troop has known for a while that they wanted to achieve the gold award together. They have been working towards it starting around fifth or sixth grade. “We did our bronze award and our silver award which are prerequisites that help us get our gold award so it was good that all our work over the last five, six years finally paid off,” senior Kayley Winkleman says.

More than just a bus driver, building a bond

Families and couples can enjoy the ride along the river for free. It's a way to give back to the community while bringing everyone together. "People will come from all over, Duluth, Superior, Wabasha, Mankato, we had a couple from Iowa come up here too" John says.

The carriage rides are held downtown starting at the Dock Cafe. They last for about seven to eight minutes and are offered for about three hours. "It's been bringing a lot of people downtown, a lot of people from all over." said Heidi Block.

The carriages that are used at the "Hometown for the Holidays" event are pulled by horses. At other events they also have reindeer. “These horses are Percherons and they’re big. But they can move the wagon with 25 people in it so easily, and they’re really quiet and that’s the kind of horses I like to use. They’re names are Cole and Tony.” said John C Block, the owner of the carriage business.

Vintage horse-drawn carriages are "Its a way to be a part of the community and see the town in a different way than through the glass of a car. And its how people used to travel, so its kind of neat to see what that must have been like." said carriage passenger Dustin Bolin.

These are the buses Marvin Peterson used to drive, and on them rode Taylor and her friends. “I was always assured because Marv was going to be out there, I knew he was going to be on time and get her to school safe and now I don’t know what the bus driver is like,” Becci Gregg, Taylor’s mom says.

Everyday Marvin drove kids to school on a bus, he had only missed one day in his 15 years as a bus driver until his recent passing. “We hung out about once every two weeks and I saw him everyday on the bus,” Taylor Gregg says.

The family also became close with Marvin because of Taylor. He knew the Greggs like he was her actual grandfather. “I liked Marvin because Taylor liked Marvin. She adored him, she needed a grandfather figure and he filled the role perfectly,” Becci Gregg, Taylor's mom says.

Taylor Gregg was the honorary granddaughter of Marvin Peterson, and he drove her to school everyday on his bus, and that was how they became so close. “Their relationship was close, really interesting and different. How they came to be friends is just special," Jody Gregg, Taylor’s father says.

Pictured here is another adaptive football athlete. The kids were taught the basic of football like catching throwing and scoring touchdowns. Football Coach Beau Labore said, "Our program started in 2006 to basically spread the joy of football making the connection that we do have some adaptive sports but we don't have adaptive football."
