Kai Knudson is an Advertising Editor for the Pony Express. He is also involved in the band program, performing in the top jazz and concert bands as well as the pep band. He also plays soccer, basketball (badly) and ultimate frisbee.

Soundset and other modern musical festivals can oftentimes show off the weirder side of people and society through the clothing choices of the audience and performers. “Today it is not uncommon to see anything under the sun, or little of anything, on stage and in the audience,” Band Director Dennis Lindsay says.

Brooke Knoll will be playing Claude Debussy’s Sacred and Profane dances on her harp, which she has been playing since she was six years old. “The Debussy dances were actually introduced to me by my cello teacher four years ago. I have loved them ever since,” Knoll says.

Concerto soloists just announced

The Stillwater Concert Orchestra provides the backgrounds and harmonies for each soloist’s musical choice, although practicing for the concertos does not begin until after tours and preparation of other pieces to be performed in Spring. “[The Concerto Concert] consists of a couple pieces with the entire orchestra and then four solo concertos that people audition for,” Diederichs says.

Many of the soloists are part of other ensembles as well. Here, Kristen Diederichs, seated third from the left in the front row, is performing with the Pit Orchestra for Stillwater’s “Anything Goes” performance. She is also part of the Stillwater Concert Wind Symphony. “Music takes up most of my free time,” says Diederichs.

Kristen Diederichs plays Mozart’s Concerto in C Major for oboe, this time on her own oboe, which was not the case at her audition. “I had a little bit of an issue the day before my audition. My oboe cracked, so I was not able to play on my oboe, but thankfully I was able to borrow one from somebody else,” Diederichs says.

Jon Luk, one of only two string players selected to solo at the the Concerto Concert, is playing Édouard Lalo's First movement in D minor on Cello. “Lalo’s cello concerto is one of the greatest pieces of solo cello repertoire filled with emotions and angst. It is a great piece,” says Luk.

The Stillwater Public Library, established in the first decade of the Twentieth century through a donation from the Steel entrepreneur and millionaire Andrew Carnegie, is a well-suited, literary building to host the Writer’s Club. “Hopefuly we will create the kind of environment where people are really drawn to it and they’re excited to come back,” says Roeschlein.

Writer’s Club encourages student expression through written word

The Shire Literary Center is hosted through Art Reach St. Croix, which has an art gallery across the street from the Library. “The Shire Literary Center offers courses for writers, and for youth in Stillwater, and we also have a radio show that we entertain writers on,” says Roeschlein.

The club is currently having meetings in a conference room in the upstairs of the Stillwater Public Library, but plans to find a new area that is larger and more comfortable. “We will have to kind of wait and see how the community responds,” says Roeschlein. “If the response is strong, we will keep going, as long as that is what the community wants.”

Emma Weber, Lydia Anderson and Chris Burbach work independently on their own pieces of literature during the first Writer’s Club meeting. Later, they will discuss and critique each other's pieces. “There will be a lot of down time where the kids can just hang out and talk,” says English Teacher Mrs. Roeschlein.

The murder weapon found at the scene of the crime on October 26. The weapon was wielded by Professor Plum, in the billiards room, to brutally murder Dr. Black to death. The picture shows where Professor Plum placed the weapon immediately after committed the crime. "It was a sinister, cruel crime," said Detective Colonel Mustard.

This year's Winner of the Little Mr. Minnesota Pageant. Chris Faffler comes out of Woodbury, MN and and excelled in the swimsuit modeling portion of the contest. Chris and other Little Mr. pageant participants are raising awareness for men's pageants. "It's been a long road but I think I've finally found what I've been made to do," Says Faffler.

Alexander Schwarz seen in the hallways on October 26. He was seen and photographed moments before donning the guise of SuperSchwarz Man and leaving the school to work on important superhero business. It was later reported that he was spotted saving a poor kitten stuck in a tree. "I'm sort of a huge deal, so ya," said Schwarz.
