Isabel Boedigheimer is a junior at SAHS and is the Head Copy Editor for the Pony Express Newspaper. She enjoys playing piano, soccer, and spending time with family and friends. She loves dogs and has a puppy of her own, Chesney, who was adopted from the Humane Society. She hopes to pursue a career in journalism in the future.

Sally Hansen’s Airbrush Legs spray for sale at Walgreens at a cheap price. The colors range from “Fairest Glow” to “Deep Glow”. Unlike tanning, lotions and sprays show instant results. Junior Christabelle Mulcahy says, “If you apply it right, it will give you a very even and tan look. If you aren’t careful though, it can get blotchy and uneven in places.”

Tanning lotions for sale at Walgreens advertising an “instant sun kissed glow”. Lotions are not only a safer alternative but are also cheaper than tanning in a booth or getting a spray tan. “Lotions are the best choice for me because I can afford it and I can apply it whenever I feel like being tan. It lasts a few days but can be applied whenever you want,” says junior Christabelle Mulcahy.

According to melanoma.org, “Occasional use of tanning beds triples your chances [of getting melanoma]. Research also suggests a strong dose-response relationship - meaning the more sessions, hours and years spent tanning, the higher the risk of developing melanoma and other types of skin cancer.”

With prom coming up many girls think they have to be tan because it is the social norm, but natural skin is beautiful and going tanning in a bed is not worth the risk. According to melanoma.org, "As many as 90% of melanomas are estimated to be caused by ultraviolet (UV) exposure. This includes UV exposure from the sun and from artificial sources, such as tanning beds."

Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, MN is where Jurek has spent a majority of her time. After having her first seizure and waking up in the hospital, Jurek says, "I had no idea where I was or why I was there.”
