Along with traveling around the United States, he plays tennis. He has been playing tennis since he was 7 year old in Spain. He plays about once a week in Spain and everyday in the United States. Despite seeing new sports and new activities in the United States, tennis remains his favorite thing to do. Host brother Cooper Hanson says, “We’re both on the tennis team right now and he’s got a competitive edge to him when we play so it’s fun.”

When asked about why he wanted to participate in the exchange program, Mas Rigo says, “It was from a friend in Spain, we were talking about learning about other countries.”

A view from the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco. Mas Rigo has become very close with his host family over the last few months and he feels like they are a second family to him. As time has gone on, he has gotten much more comfortable being here in America and being with the American people. When asked how it was when he first arrives he answered, “It was pretty awkward, it was like super hard to understand everything.”

Mas Rigo has become much more involved with school activities throughout the year. Although he didn’t perform in the battle of the bands, he was in the stands watching with a group of friends. Host brother Copper Hanson says, At first, he was shy, but it was more due to a lack of English. As time has gone on though, he has picked it up quick and with all the new language he acquires, he becomes more likely to strike up a conversation himself.

This past spring, over spring break, Mas Rigo went on vacation to San Francisco for a week with his host family. He has a great time on vacation as one of his main reasons to come to the United States was to travel and learn about American culture, which California has a lot of. Host brother Cooper Hanson says, “We’ve shown Carlos a lot of Minnesota as well having gone to San Francisco for spring break.”
