Shorter styles allow for healthier hair
For a long time, longer hair has always been desired. From expensive extensions to crazy hair masks, the want for long hair has always been apparent. Not anymore, more girls are choosing to cut off their hair for shoulder length or shorter hairstyles.
Not only is shorter hair easier to take care of but one can save a lot of money because less hair means less hair product being used. It also means less time being spent in the bathroom in the morning.
Senior Laura Ilkka said, “I like having short hair because it’s so much less work. I use less shampoo and conditioner and it saves me time in the morning.”
Cutting one’s hair can help improve overall health. By cutting the split ends off, the hair can grow back stronger and healthier. However, by cutting it, it will not grow back faster, which could be good if one is looking to maintain the short length of their hair.
Junior Tori Kelm works at Trendi Salon in Woodbury. As winter weather dries out the hair, she said, “The midi bob is really popular right now, especially among females who have recently gone darker for the winter months.”
There are a lot of different hairstyles that cannot be done with short hair, but there are even more that can be done. One look through Pinterest can show people the huge variety in hairstyles that can be done.
Kelm said, “Braids can look really cute on shorter hair and they are just a matter of looking for some inspiration.”
If someone is serious about cutting their hair, seeing someone who knows what they’re doing would be best. However, there are many videos on the internet people can watch if they choose the DIY route for their haircut. Since going from long hair to shoulder length is such a big change, it is best to leave it up to the professionals.
Kelm said, “My number one recommendation is to see a professional! It is best to see a professional and get what you want done.”
If a girl gets her hair cut and realizes its not what she wants, it is not hard to fix it. There are countless products that promise to speed up hair growth and things like extensions can help with longer hair looks.
Ilkka said, “To girls who are thinking about cutting it, I say just go for it. It’s hair and it grows back! Might as well have fun and try different things.”

Great job Audra, you took a topic that seemed so simple and expanded on it to really inform the audience. I’m glad you did your research and found the best possible people to interview for this article that are directly related to this topic. Your lead also brings in the reader and is very clever.

The headline drew my attention to wanting to read this article because I am a girl with fairly short hair so this related closely to me. A lot of my friends have been wanting to go shorter, so I think this would be a good read for them that has strong quotes from girls who have already cut their hair short, so they can see if they should chop it or not.

As a girl with short hair, I can totally relate to this article! it was immensely informative and straight to the point. It’s fun to read an article about noticeable trends. I really enjoyed how you got the perspective from a student who works at a hair salon!

What drew me in to this article was the headline because I have been thinking about getting my hair shorter. When I read the article, a lot of the quotes and facts had really good reasoning. The use of vocabulary and the interviews were really informative.
