Contouring highlighting trend defining its popularity
Contouring has become a new popular trend. It has made its way to high school, becoming popular with teenage girls. It is the new fun makeup trend experimented by teenagers on their own that turned into a usual daily look.
Contouring originated as a way for men to achieve the face shape of women by creating a shadow to change the shape or create a new shape. It was commonly used by drag queens who lived as men by day and women by night and achieved the figure of a woman by contouring and highlighting from the face to the feet.
Contouring is now used as a way for women to define their facial features and give the look of a different face shape. It is also used in different ways such as creating the illusions of abs and muscular or flawless legs.
“I feel like contouring is just a way for girls to achieve the flawless skin that is ideal in society by using makeup to create the look,” junior Samantha Strubing said.
It has become very popular to watch contouring videos on Instagram. Many teenagers watch videos showing girls drawing contouring and highlighting lines on their face to make it look like a clown or a doll. Then they blend it with a makeup sponge and their face looks perfect.
“I really like watching contouring videos on instagram because of all of the crazy shapes they can make with the makeup and still look great when they blend all of it,” junior Sydney Spreeman said.
There has been a debate about whether women need to contour or not because it was originally created for men to achieve the face of a woman. Another concern is that contouring and highlighting only makes their face look overly defined and is not necessary because they are already born with a contoured face.
“I think that if anyone wants to use contouring to make them feel more confident about their face then it shouldn’t matter what people think,” sophomore Katia Adkins said.
People all over youtube are posting videos where they transform their face into the face of a celebrity by contouring to give them the look of the celebrity’s face shape and features.
“It is very cool to watch people completely transform their face to look like someone completely different just by using makeup,” junior Sydney Spreeman said.

The picture used in the article really enhances the look of contouring and shows what the article is talking about. I think the quotes are really valid and it would have been cool to get boys opinions on contouring.
