Olivia Primoli pursues passion in cosmetics
Olivia Primoli is a senior who is taking steps to ensure a career in cosmetology.
Primoli has a tremendous interest in makeup and cosmetics. She wants to become a makeup artist for professional models and photoshoots. Primoli takes ample time out of the beginning of her day to attend college classes to gain experience.
“Right now I am in Cosmetology school at Century doing classes for hair, we don’t do as much makeup we do more hair than anything. I go there for my first three hours for high school and then I also do outside of school stuff. I am actually going to Aveda (Business) Institute in Minneapolis next year, so I will be doing hair and makeup and skin and all that. I do not want to work in a salon and cut hair, that is what my mom does. I want to do more makeup for runway and photoshoots,” Primoli said.
Primoli’s extra curricular activities revolve heavily around practicing and performing makeup procedure. She beautifies her friends for their senior photos, girls attending prom, and even had the opportunity to work with a bride for her wedding.
She explained the application process as, “First you would start with a primer to put on their face to smooth out their skin before you put any products on. If they have oily skin then you would put a mattifying primer. Then you would do the foundation, then you would do contours to have the light hit their face. Then you would do the dark on the cheeks. Then I do the eyes with eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara. Then I do the eyebrows and finally lips last.”
She has even managed to broadcast herself through local business in the Stillwater area.
“Stillwater Skin is right across from the high school and I have a makeup line there that I started,” Primoli said.
Primoli draws her inspiration from multiple online sources but there is one professional makeup artist that is most notable to her.
“There is this one girl on Instagram, her name is Lora Arellano, and I like her a lot because she is not afraid to try anything new. She is really out there and does crazy eye makeup looks. She doesn’t do the normal or what everyone else is doing. She experiments and does her own thing. She also does Rihanna’s makeup and I love Rihanna,” Primoli said.
With practice, hard work, determination and always a little fun, Primoli hopes to take her skills to the professional level.
Primoli said, “I just like doing makeup because I can create whatever I want. It is like a canvas and I can pretty much do whatever I want on the person, and also make them feel good about themselves, and make them feel beautiful.”

I really enjoyed reading this article! I love hearing more about hobbies of other students that I never knew about. I loved the quotes you had, they helped explain her passion. The photos were also great, showing her makeup techniques and adding a little more to the story.

The quotes you had from Olivia had great length and depth but I think there could have been a better variety in who you interviewed, perhaps some of her family or a client? Either way it was a great story that showed a unique talent at stillwater

This article was really interesting and well written. They used in depth quotes that explained how she does her make up and why she likes it. It also did a good job explaining her goals for the future and how she plans to reach them. The photo story was good because it showed the type of make up she does and her skill level in it. One thing that could be improved on is more quotes from a variety of people like her mom or her friends.

Very cool to see how she is starting up at such a young age. On top of the quotes the pictures were very well done and make you really see her skill!

Really well done, James! Lots of detail in your quotes made me feel like I was actually talking to her. I thought it was really cool to read about someone in our community who has a passion for makeup!

I loved reading this article! I really like how the articles shines a light on her only, and doesn’t focus a ton of her family or outside sources. The choice of quotes and quote placement is excellent, making the story flow nicely. I also really liked the variety of photos available for a reader to see at, in order to truly see her work. Overall great job, it was easy to read as well as informative.

This is a good story. The fact sections could go a little bit more in depth, but the lengthy, descriptive quotes make up for it. I think overall, this article really gives other students insight into Olivia’s life and is well done.

It is always interesting not only to hear about students at our school who have specific hobbies and passions such as makeup or cosmetology but how they can take the hobbies and passions they have and turn them into careers is what really makes the story worth the read. Good job.
