FCA club connects faith and athletics

Reaching out and helping people in need is a great thing, but connecting them to God is an entirley different kind of help. The FCA club started this year for students in the community who want to spread the word of Christ through athletics. The group is headed by.

The Fellowship for Christian Athletes (FCA) started in 1954 consisting of coaches and althetes. The mission of the FCA is to impact the world for Jesus Christ using the influence of athletics. Students who join this group want to help spread the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ through their everyday athletics.

Junior Emma Stratmoen is a member of the FCA club. “Religion is so much more than just a practice to me,” said Stratmoen. “I’ve grown up in the church, but as I’ve gotten older, my faith has become my own,” she added.

Christianity is the largest religion in the U.S. and the world. Stratmoen, along with many others, grew up learning her religion through youth groups and organizations like the FCA. Stratmoen feels that she owes a lot to her faith, and that it has impacted her life greatly.

“I am very involved with the youth group and pre-school ministries at my church,” said Stratmoen. “I’ve also come to know some of my best friends through my faith and I couldn’t be more thankful for that,” she added.

The FCA club, like many other groups, has a leading body of students that run the meetings and organize all of the events held.

Junior A.J. Laudet is one of the students that helps run the FCA club. It promotes his faith through athletics. “During football games, we pray as a team before and after the game, and we do the same for other sports.” He added, “We remember that God gave us those skills, and we thank him for them.”

The FCA club has meetings every other Wednesday morning. They hold a bible study and enjoy donuts amongst other things.

“We talk about God and read parts of the Bible that apply to our athletics and school,” said Laudet. He added, “FCA club is open to everyone no matter where you stand in your faith and if you’re just curious, come check it out on Wednesday mornings and our monthly events.”

The FCA club has an adult supervisor like the other clubs.

Brad Madison is not on the staff at the high school, but he is a youth pastor at Rock Point church. “FCA club is big on relationships and community. We spend a lot of our time building those through social events,” said Madison on the club. “We are currently looking at hosting a Broomball tournament this winter,” he added.

The FCA club does not limit themselves to just an athletic connection, it also connects to charity and the community as a whole.

“The goal of FCA club is to see Stillwater Area High School impacted by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes, to provide community for Christian athletes and to serve the school and community,” said Madison. The FCA club is also connected through social media.

The FCA club is an organization for anyone that is interested in pursuing a deeper connection to Christ and helping out in the community.
