Drommerhausen inspires students after 42 years of teaching
Well into her 42nd year of teaching the marketing class, Debbie Drommerhausen better known as Mrs. D, remains a favorite among many students.
Many students and colleagues around her at Stillwater Area High School see her as a great role model. She is known for her positive energy in class and in the halls, as well as her need to get to know every single one of her students.
Many students took the marketing class just to have her as a teacher instead of really having an interest in marketing.
“You walk into class and she greets you every day, then you do the stock market game and have a lot of fun with her,” said junior Riley Eviota.
Even when the subject of marketing does not spark an interest in many student’s choice of classes. Between the marketing game and the need Drommerhausen has to get to know all the students, marketing has quickly become a primary course choice for students.
Junior Robbie Dunham said, “I would definitely recommend everyone to take her class because it is a ton of fun and you learn a lot which ties into many future career paths.”
Not only is Drommerhausen an inspiration in the classroom, she also is a great motivation for students and athletes to show their pony pride around the school and Stillwater to the fullest.
“Mrs. D plays a huge role at Stillwater Area High School when it comes to pony pride, she is at every football game always showing her pride to the maximum,” said Robbie Dunham.
As for Drommerhausen, this was not the career she really planned for. She was originally going to school to become part of the business world, but when they told her that by teaching she would get 10 percent off her student loans she decided to give it a try. She fell in love with her job and the students she worked with year after year. She then knew that she did not want to quit teaching to go into the business world.
Drommerhausen said, “My favorite part of teaching is being with the students, listening to them get excited about the business world because in my little world I say that marketing is everything. Whether they sell themselves at a job interview or applying to college.”
These past 42 years Drommerhausen has been a huge benefit for the high school, not only do her colleagues enjoy having her around she is a huge inspiration for the all of the students that surround her.
