Trump must continue to prevent terrorism

January 3, 2017

Some say it has brought us together some say it’s torn us apart, but together terrorism has impacted us all as a whole. Our country has faced many challenges, but terrorism seems to be the most difficult.

The United States has been hit numerous times with the atrocity that is terrorism. The most infamous of these attacks are 9/11 or the Boston marathon bombing. Many Americans fear what will be coming next with the new president elect, while others are enthused as to what changes he will make.

Our country has seen dark days as our nationalistic ways have been tested. Before 9/11 we knew about terrorism, but it was never as apparent until after the attack and that really increased our countries awareness.

Sophomore Caitlin Weismann said, “Terrorism has torn our country apart, people fearing other people based on what they look like.”

Terrorism has not only divided the people but has also brought out more discrimination. Discrimination against Muslims, people of different race and religion. The discrimination drives the wedge between the people further.

Junior Ashley Gorman said, “Discrimination has definitely grown towards Muslims and those who dress and act differently.” Weismann agreed, “Muslim people have taken a really big hit.”

Muslim religion has been a big point of correlation that people place onto to terrorism as it has been similar in many cases. This continues both the discrimination and racism that we have seen in the many years.

Groman said, “I think the Muslim religion has been an obvious attack point but I don’t think we should group the religion as whole, not all are terrorists and it’s awful that that’s how they’re grouped,”  junior Sophie Oubaha agreed. “People are more scared then they were before and that fear sometimes turns negative which then turns into discrimination.”

Now that Trump has been elected many people have wondered how the terrorist attacks will change. Many think they will get worse and increase while others believe it will stop completely.

Weismann said, “I think the discrimination will increase but I’m not sure if he has an impact on the terrorist attacks.” While Gorman disagreed, “I don’t really think he’ll affect it that much.”

Not only has our country as a whole been hurt by terrorism, but also the individuals in our country. Not only the people involved in the attacks benign hurt themselves, but also those affected families and towns. It has increased discrimination and has split our country in ways that will be hard to repair. It will be a huge change that President-Elect Trump will bring and all of America is waiting and watching.
