Old fashion trends, trending now
November 30, 2016
Clothing trends have greatly changed over time, but while some are coming back, others die forever. A few of the trends that have some back are chokers, Doc Martens, and button down jean skirts. Many of these clothes even parents used to wear. Not only have fashion trends come back, but stronger than ever before. A lot of trends that have come back are loved and wanted, but some are not as popular, including the outlandish hair and the Harem pants from the 70s.
Trends come back because of influences from the media and many celebrities. Throughout this past year, designers have been bringing back old trends in new and different ways. In their runways they have shown clothes and accessories from different decades specially the 60s and 70s.
Since a lot of the trends that have been coming back were around when parents were young, a lot of people wear their parents clothes to save money. One of those people is junior Peyton Sitz, who has wears lots of her mom’s old clothes.
Sitz said, “My mom has some really cute jackets and skirts from the 90s and my dad has a couple letterman jackets from high school that he lets me wear.”
Not all have the same opportunities including junior Eli Huber, “My parents have different fashion senses and tend to disagree with mine.”
Besides getting clothes from their parents, many people go to antique stores or thrift stores to try to find the best deals. Some of the shops here in Stillwater include Goodwill and Plato’s Closet in Woodbury. A lot of places also sell older trends, as they have come back today. Some include H&M and Forever 21, they are both fairly cheap stores.
Sitz said, “I try to find little places with cheaper prices; they always have at least one thing I want, and Forever 21, which also has cheap clothes.”
Makeup has become more bold, yet natural as styles including darker lipstick shades and darker eyes with the clean face has become more of a popular look yet again. Hairstyles that have come back are seeming to be more natural, including the more blown out look for hair and a more effortless take on beauty. Looks always differ in the person as more celebrities try for the more bold look, and famous models try for more clean nude makeup to keep their faces clean and healthy.
Sitz said, “I’m glad a lot of the makeup trends have come back, because that’s how I have always done my makeup and hair, but now it’s in style.”
There are also lots of trends that have not come back around that some believe should have or have not stayed as long as hoped. Some include Members-Only jackets and many types of shoes including numerous types of men’s shoes.
Huber talked about his favorite trend that wasn’t able to last, “Hats came and went, but I love them.”
Lots of trends have come back around from the 70s, 80s, 90s and the few that have come back from the 60s. While some are only popular from social media, a lot have stuck around through teenagers and their love of fashion. Some trends are wanted, while some are not, but they come back nonetheless. The clothing trends have changed over time, but some have come back and shaped the styles that we have today.
